The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
September 22nd
- Organized Retail Theft – 11048 San Pablo Ave. (Harbor Freight Tools): At 9:47 AM, two suspects stole miscellaneous items and fled prior to police arrival.
- Shoplifting – 7022 Stockton Ave. (7-Eleven): At 5:42 PM, officers accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect who stole merchandise from the store. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
- Warrant Arrest – Cutting Blvd. / S.50th Ave. At 12:19 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the investigation, officers found the driver had a DUI warrant. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Stolen Vehicle Recovered – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway): At 7:06 PM, an officer received a FLOCK License Plate Reader notification of a stolen vehicle. Patrolling officers circulated the area and located the vehicle occupied. The driver of the vehicle was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
September 23rd
- Petty Theft – 300 block of Pomona Ave. At 8:02 AM, the victim reports their front license plate was stolen sometime overnight.
- Towed Wanted Felony Vehicle – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreens): At 9:18 AM, an officer located an unoccupied vehicle parked in the parking lot. After conducting a search, officers found the vehicle associated with another crime outside El Cerrito. The vehicle was released on scene and the primary police agency was contacted.
- Recovered Stolen Vehicle / Attempted Vehicle Theft / Conspiracy and Failing to Comply with Police – Carlson Blvd. / Van Fleet Ave. At 9:36 AM, officers were dispatched to the area of San Diego St. and Belmont Ave. for the occupants of a suspicious vehicle, looking into parked vehicles. Investigation later found the suspicious vehicle had been reported stolen. While circulating area, officers saw the passenger suspect attempting to steal a parked vehicle. The suspects fled on foot from officers once a traffic enforcement stop was initiated. Patrolling officers located and arrested both juvenile suspects. The suspects were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, transported to Juvenile Hall and their parents notified. The stolen vehicle was released at the scene and returned to the owner.
- Stolen Vehicle – 1500 block of Liberty St. At 12:45 PM, the victim reported that their motorcycle trailer was stolen from their residence.
- Stolen Vehicle – 1600 Block of Lexington Ave. At 8:45 PM, the victim reported their vehicle had been stolen.
- Stolen Vehicle – 1600 Block of Lexington Ave. At 8:49 PM, the victim reported their vehicle had been stolen.
- Recovered Stolen Vehicle – S. 56th St / Carlos Ave. At 9:54 PM, officers located an unoccupied stolen vehicle. The owner was notified, and the vehicle returned to its owner.
September 24th
- Resisting Arrest from a Peace Officer / Battery on a Police Officer – 11645 San Pablo Ave. (Freeway Motel): At 8:30 AM, officers detained a suspect involved in a possible physical altercation with their ex-significant other. The suspect refused to comply with officers orders and struck a police officer. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Stolen Vehicle – Liberty St. / Hill St. At 3:28 PM, the victim reports their vehicle was stolen between the hours of 4:50 AM – 3:00 PM.
- Organized Retail Theft – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 4:23 PM, two suspects entered the store and stole miscellaneous items. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.
September 25th
- Grand Theft – 6600 block of Gladys Ave. At 10:34 AM, a victim reports a cable wire was cut and copper inside stolen.
- Identity Theft – 1500 block of Arlington Blvd. At 11:52 AM, the victim reported that the suspect opened a life insurance policy in the victim’s name.
- Petty Theft – 6600 block of Schmidt Ln. At 1:33 PM, two victims reported both their license plates were stolen from their vehicles. Stolen Vehicle – 5600 block of Jordan Ave. At 4:07 PM, the victim reports their vehicle was stolen from their driveway sometime between 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
September 26th
- Stolen Vehicle – 6500 block of Moeser Ln. At 10:03 AM, the victim reports their vehicle was stolen.
- Robbery – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 1:28 PM, an employee confronted a suspect who was shoplifting. After being confronted, the suspect brandished a weapon. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
- Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Stockton Ave. At 2:42 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the investigation, the driver was found to have a warrant. The driver was arrested and released on a citation in the field.
- Petty Theft / Identify Theft – 400 block of Kearney St. At 3:36 PM, the victim reports their wallet was stolen and their cards were fraudulently used.
- Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS): At 8:17 PM, officers responded to a shoplifting. Upon arrival, the suspect had already fled the scene. The suspect later returned and was located by officers. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Grand Theft – 600 Block of Elm St. At 7:53 PM, the victim reported a suspect stole items from a construction site.
- Vandalism – 11940 San Pablo Ave. (Tub Town). At 2:13 AM, officers responded to a glass break alarm from the business. Upon arrival, officer found a rock that was thrown at the front window. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
September 27th
- Drunk in Public – 9895 San Pablo Ave. (Peet’s): At 2:57 AM, officers contacted a subject who was passed out in the parking lot, next to an open container of alcohol. Officers determined the subject was intoxicated and placed the suspect under arrest. The subject was booked at the EL Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Residential Burglary – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave. At 9:32 AM, officers arrested a suspect for breaking into an apartment. The suspect was medically cleared at Kaiser Richmond and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Stolen Vehicle – 11600 block of San Pablo Ave. At 10:32 AM, the victim reports their vehicle was stolen.
September 28th
- Residential Burglary – 500 building of El Cerrito Plaza At 9:48 AM, employees reported a suspect was found inside an apartment. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Stolen License Plate – 1800 block of Liberty St. At 12:35 PM, a victim reports a suspect stole the rear license plate from their vehicle sometime overnight.
- Residential Burglary – 500 Block of Kearney St. An officer reports a suspect entered the victim’s residence through a back sliding door and moved property within the home.
- Battery – 6060 Central Ave. (Nation’s):
At 11:56 PM, an officer reports when the victim left the business with their food, the suspect followed the victim out and assaulted them. Officers arrived on scene and accepted the victim’s citizen’s arrest. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
September 29th
- Driving Under the Influence / Unlicensed Driver – San Pablo Ave. / Hill St. At 1:08 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the DUI investigation, the driver was found to be unlicensed and under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released with a citation to a sober friend.
- Stolen Vehicle – 10012 San Pablo Ave. (Pic-N-Pac Liquors): At 8:08 PM, an officer reports two suspects stole the victim’s vehicle while the keys were still left in the ignition.
September 30th
- Trespass – 900 Block of Liberty St. At 12:48 AM, an officer reports the victim’s ex-significant other entered the victim’s residence through an open window. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
- Driving Under the Influence – Van Fleet Ave. / San Luis Ave. While searching for the suspect in the above case, an officer located the suspect and conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the DUI investigation, the suspect was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Shooting at an Occupied Vehicle – 10400 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 1:17 AM, officers responded to the area for a suspect shooting at vehicle. During the investigation, officers discovered the suspect and several victims were at a local bar when a verbal altercation ensued. All parties were asked to leave and went to a nearby parking lot where they continued their verbal altercation. As the victims got into their vehicles, the suspect shot at them using a firearm. There were no injuries reported after the investigation concluded. The suspect was arrested, and the case was forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office. - Vandalism – 600 block of Lexington Ave. At 8:17 AM, multiple victims reported their windows to their vehicles were shattered sometime overnight.
- Stolen License Plate – 200 of El Cerrito Plaza: At 11:14 AM, a victim reported their license plate was stolen.
- Petty Theft – 6050 El Cerrito Plaza (Barnes & Noble): At 6:55 PM, a victim reported their property was left at the business while shopping at another business. Upon return, the victim discovered a suspect had stolen their property.
October 1st
- Recovered Stolen Vehicle – San Pablo Ave. / Bayview Ave. At 7:52 AM, an officer located the victim’s stolen vehicle parked unoccupied. The owner of the vehicle was called and the vehicle was released to the owner on scene.
- Financial Theft – 2600 block of Arlington Blvd. At 1:14 PM, a victim reported that they were scammed out of their money over both the internet and phone.
- Battery / Criminal Threats – 900 Block of Elm St. At 9:08 PM, officers responded to a battery between roommates. During the altercations, one of the roommates threatened to kill the other. The report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office.
- Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave. / El Dorado St. At 2:42 AM, officers responded to an injury accident involving two vehicles. The driver collided into a parked vehicle and was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and released on a citation to the hospital.
October 2nd
- Stolen Vehicle – 5300 block of School St. At 9:11 AM, the victim reported their vehicle was stolen sometime last night.
- Grand Theft – 600 block of Ashbury Ave. At 12:16 PM, the victim reports their catalytic converter was stolen from their vehicle.
- Warrant Arrest – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS): At 7:47 PM, officers responded to a known shoplifter inside the business. Upon arrival, the officers were told that the subject had already left but was located nearby. A records search of the suspect found the subject had a warrant for their arrest. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Battery / Criminal Threats – San Pablo Ave. / El Dorado St. At 6:42 PM, officers responded to a report of a battery and criminal threats. The report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for review.
- Drunk in Public / Probation Violation – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 8:50 PM, officers responded to a possible theft from the business. Upon arrival, officers located a highly intoxicated subject. A records check of the subject found the subject was also on active probation. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
October 3rd
- Grand Theft – 1200 block of Liberty St. At 9:11 AM, a victim reports their catalytic converter was stolen from their vehicle sometime last night.
- Robbery – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 9:28 AM, an employee reports two suspects stole alcohol from the store. When confronted by employees, one of the suspects struck the employee. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.
- Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Hill St. At 3:14 PM, an officer conducted a traffic stop. During the investigation, officers found the driver to have a warrant for their arrest. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
October 4th
- Battery – 11252 San Pablo Ave. (Antojitos Guatemaltecos): At 6:18 PM, a victim reports a suspect hit the victim in the head with their elbow. The case was forwarded to the District Attorney’s office.
- Driving Under the Influence – 11821 San Pablo Ave. (McDonald’s): At 10:31 PM, officers responded to the parking lot of the business for a report of a vehicle collision. While officers were responding, dispatch advised one of the drivers was yelling at other patrons and hitting their vehicles. Upon arrival, officers conducted a DUI investigation. During the investigation, officers found the suspect to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released on a citation to a sober friend.
October 5th
- Vandalism – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 6:14 PM, an officer reports a suspect threw a brick through the victim’s vehicle window. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

- Theft by Deception – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (US Bank): At 12:10 PM, an officer reports a suspect sold the victim a fake phone.
- Stolen Vehicle Recovery – San Diego St. / Carlson Blvd. At 10:35 PM, officers recovered a stolen truck reported to Berkeley PD. The truck was released to the owner on scene.
October 8th
- Robbery – 9950 San Pablo Ave. (Chase Bank): At 8:09 AM, an officer reports the victim was depositing cash into an ATM when the suspect approached them and threatened the victim and demanded money. The suspect grabbed some of the cash from the victim and fled the scene. At 4:17 PM, employees recognized the suspect when they returned to the bank and called police. Officers arrived on scene and detained the suspect. The suspect was positively identified by the victim during an in-field identification. Officers conducted a records check and found the suspect was on parole with an active warrant for their arrest. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Attempt Grand Theft – 6700 Block of Gladys Ave. At 9:38 AM, an officer reports a suspect attempted to steal copper wires that were attached to a telephone pole.
- Possession of Marijuana for Sales / Possession of Marijuana Over an Ounce / Possession of Prescribed Narcotics without a Prescription – Kearney St. / Wall Ave. At 10:46 PM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the investigation, officers located drug paraphernalia on the passenger. The passenger was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released on a citation.
October 9th
- Organized Retail Theft – 670 El Cerrito Plaza. At 8:14 PM, three juvenile suspects entered the business and stole merchandise. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.
- Grand Theft – 5020 El Cerrito Plaza (Panda Express): At 12:53 AM, a suspect entered the closed unsecured business and stole a contractor’s property.
- Shoplift / Possession of a Drug Paraphernalia – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS): At 9:51 AM, officers were dispatched to a theft. Upon officers arrival, an employee pointed out the suspect who was inside a nearby business. Officer contacted the suspect and the employee placed the suspect under Citizen’s Arrest. During a search incident to arrest, the suspect was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was transported directly to the Martinez Detention Facility.
October 10th
- Vandalism – 6060 Central Ave. (Nation’s): At 6:32 AM, an officer reports a suspect kicked the glass of the front door to the business, causing damage to the door. Officers canvased the area and located the suspect nearby. The suspect attempted to flee from officers and a short foot pursuit ensued. The suspect was detained by officers and placed under arrest. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Theft – 7400 Block of Fairmount Ave. At 9:12 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole a license plate from the victim’s vehicle.
- Identity Theft – 1100 Block of James Pl. At 2:52 PM, an officer took a report of online fraud.
- Shoplift – 11060 San Pablo Ave. (Harbor Freight): At 2:42 PM, an officer reports a suspect exited the business with unpaid merchandise.
- Organized Retail Theft – 11545 San Pablo Ave. (Ross): At 8:50 PM, two suspects entered the store and stole several items. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.
- Warrant Arrest – 9900 Block of San Pablo Ave. At 12:29 AM, officers were dispatched to an unwanted subject. During the investigation, officers found the subject had three outstanding warrants for their arrest. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
October 11th
- Organized Retail Theft – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross): At 7:46 PM, an officer reports two suspects fled the store with unpaid merchandise.
October 12th
- Warrant Arrest / Possession of a Controlled Substance – San Pablo Ave. / Moeser Ln. At 12:19 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. A records search found the driver had an outstanding warrant for their arrest. During a search incident to arrest, officers located a suspected controlled substance. The driver was arrested and issued a citation for the warrant and drug charge.
- Driving Under the Influence – Cutting Blvd./ Key Blvd. At 2:31 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During a DUI investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released with a citation to a sober friend.
- Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Moeser Ln. / Shevlin Dr. At 8:00 AM, an officer located a trailer that was reported stolen to Richmond PD.
- Burglary (Commercial) – 11366 San Pablo Ave. (Ayuda Financial): At 12:09 PM, an officer reports a suspect broke into the business and stole money.
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 6500 Block of Hill St. At 11:42 PM, an officer reports suspects drove up to the victim and shot at the victim with BB guns.
