On Friday, the Antioch Police Department Swat team responded to Stonecrest Drive for a male barricaded inside a home and would not come out.
According to Antioch Police Lt. Desmond Bittner, at approximately 4:30 pm, officers responded to a report of an assault. When officers made contact with the two individuals who reported an assault, they explained to officers the person responsible was inside the residence. The officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, the man refused to open the door or make contact with offices.
As officers were attempting to negotiate a peaceful surrender, the male suspect was armed with a knife and brandishing it at officers. Police said he had the knife with him during the entire incident which was observed in windows and at the front door–including when he came out to surrender.
“Ultimately, it resulted in a barricaded subject. The subject barricaded himself inside the house. There was a shelter in place for surrounding homes and officers set up a perimeter,” explained Bittner. “After several hours, the SWAT team was called to the location and we did all we can to negotiate with the suspect for several hours.”
By 11:00 pm Friday, Bittner said it ended with a “peaceful outcome” and the suspect was taken into custody. He is facing felony assault charges and felony arrest. The man also had previous felony warrant for a probation violation for an assault charge.
“Even after hours and hours of negotiation and deployment of chemical agents, he did come out with a knife. The officers showed great restraint and used their taser devices and some sponge foam bullets to get him into custody safely without any further harm,” shared Bittner.
Bittner added officers did all they could to resolve this peacefully while also allowing some of the family members on scene to assist.
“At the end of the day, we had to deploy a chemical agent into the house to try and get him to come out. After negotiating, he did come out and there was some minimal force used,” explained Bittner. “He was taken to an area hospital to be cleared before he is taken to Martinez Detention Facility.”
No other information was released.
