Antioch City Council Set to Discuss Substation at Sycamore Square

by CC News
Antioch

On Tuesday, the Antioch City Council will discuss a potential lease of vacant retail space at Sycamore Square for the Antioch Police Department.

While no details are provided on cost, however, the item will be up for discussion and the council will provide direction to city staff on whether to move forward or not.  The item was requested by Councilmember Tamisha Torres-Walker.

Back in July 2021, Antioch Mayor Lamar Hernandez-Thorpe, along with Councilwoman Torres-Walker held a press conference at Sycamore Square.

During the press conference, Hernandez-Thorpe threatened to hold businesses accountable and potential eminent domain.  He also stated there would be a county probation partnership at Sycamore Square—and they would have an office in the square.

None of that came to fruition.

With Sundays shooting leaving a 23-year-old in critical condition, it was the 4th shooting on Sycamore this week. On October 20, two others were wounded in a shooting

This is rich! Tamisha wanted to defund the police and now she wants a substation in the heart of the war zone. Bring out the beast loaded for bear so the TWO policeman won’t be on Sycamore Island alone.

Should have happened years ago. You would think whoever owns that property would donate a vacant spot for a few months. It would surely help the businesses that have to put up with the knuckleheads.

They commit crimes in front of the actual police dept so I doubt a substation will help

Eminent domain?
Let’s force people to sell their business for pennies on the dollar or force people out of their home.
Let’s force politicians out of their homes and businesses for Pennie’s and see how they like it

Sycamore Square is where I do all of my christmas shopping. It’s a real gem in central Antioch’s crown.

Keep them there where we know not to go. People who are there love it there, Let them take each other out. That’s how they want to live. If you want a better life then stay the hell outa there. Stupid is is stupid does
