On Tuesday, the Oakley Police Department responded to two people found unconscious at the Antioch fishing pier parking lot.
At 4:45 pm, Oakley police and Contra Costa County Fire responded to the end of Bridgehead Road. Upon arrival, one victim was cold to the touch and not breathing while the second male was saved by Oakley Police Department officers who had administered a counter acting drug (NARCAN).
The male was transported by ambulance to the hospital. His condition is not known.
The father of the young deceased victim, who arrived at the crime scene, his passionate words were, “they need to go find the fools that’s selling this sh*t.”
According to preliminary information, it was believed to possibly be a fentanyl overdose.
According to the CDC, the U.S. saw a 14.5% decrease in overdose deaths from June 2023 through June 2024. Also, for first time since 2021, DEA has seen a decrease in the potency of fentanyl pills. The latest DEA laboratory testing indicates 5 out of 10 pills tested in 2024 contain a potentially deadly dose of fentanyl. This is down from 7 out of ten pills in 2023 and 6 out of ten pills in 2022.

OAKLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO SEVERAL TRAGIC MEDICAL CALLS IN ONE DAY
November 19, 2024 was a particularly somber day in areas of Oakley. Oakley PD responded to several incidents that were not related to enforcing laws, but fall within OPD’s scope of duties nonetheless. Each one of these incidents represented a tragedy that left several victims in their wake. Our thoughts go out to all who were impacted by these incidents.
At 8:25AM, OPD received a call from the 3800 block of Marsh Way about a man who had just received a gunshot wound. Upon arrival it was determined the wound was self-inflicted and it turned out to be a fatal injury. Without going into details, this was an absolute tragedy for the family of the deceased and our thoughts and hearts go out to them. We urge anyone who is going through a crisis that seems to be heading towards thoughts of self-harm to reach out for help. Call a trusted friend, reach out to a family member you can trust, seek counseling if possible and please know there are services available to you such as the Contra Costa County Crisis Center (call 2-1-1, or text the word HOPE to 20121).
At 4:21PM, officers responded to the 5200 block of Elm Lane to provide aid to a man who had been working underneath a vehicle. Somehow the vehicle fell from its supports and landed on him. The man was trapped under the vehicle for a few minutes. He was eventually freed from under the vehicle with significant injuries. The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment and we are hoping for the best for him.
We would like to remind everybody to work safely when working on elevated vehicles by using properly placed jack stands to fully support the vehicle, never relying solely on the car’s jack, and ensuring wheels are securely chocked to prevent movement; always consult the vehicle’s manual for correct jacking points and ensure the jack stands are rated for the vehicle’s weight. DO NOT work under a vehicle solely supported by a car jack nor use makeshift supports like bricks or wood blocks or crawl under a vehicle without proper support.
At 4:41PM, officers were dispatched to the Antioch Regional Shoreline pier parking lot at the end of Bridgehead Road for a call of two unresponsive men inside a vehicle. Officers Horn and B. Jackson arrived at the scene and were met by one of the parents of the victims who guided them to the right vehicle. Officers Horn and B. Jackson found the two men unconscious and unresponsive in the driver’s and front passenger seats of the vehicle. The man in the driver’s seat appeared to have labored breathing while the passenger showed no signs of life at all. Officers Horn and B. Jackson started working on both men simultaneously and came to the conclusion that both men seemed to be suffering from a drug overdose. One dose of Narcan was administered to each man with no positive response occurring from either of them. Officers Horn and B. Jackson administered second doses of Narcan to each man. The man who had been in the driver’s seat continued to have labored breathing and a shallow pulse. The man who had been in the passenger seat never gained consciousness and never developed any sign of life; he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The man who had been in the driver’s seat was transported to a local hospital for elevated treatment.
