With a atmospheric river expected to hit California, many cities in Contra Costa County have made sandbags available for the storm.
Also, with heavy rains expected to reach the Bay Area Wednesday, a flood watch has been extended through 4:00 am Saturday according to the national Weather Service.
Here is a list of locations and options.
Antioch
1201 W 4th Street
The City of Antioch’s sandbag distribution site is up and running. Located at the City’s corporation yard at 1201 W 4th Street (Please enter from N Street). The station is located just before the chain link gate on the right-hand side and is stocked with bags, shovels, and a sand funnel. The Sandbag Station is a 24-hour self-serve station and is free to residents while supplies last.

Bethel Island
Sandbags are being made available via the Bethel Island Municipal Improvement District (BIMID) at the following locations:
- 7300 Bethel Island Road (entrance to BIMID Mitigation Site)
- 7235 Piper Road (entrance to BIMID Mitigation Site)
- 3085 Stone Road (behind Scout Hall)
Locations have an orange traffic cone marking the locations. Sandbags will be supplied. Must bring your own shovel. If there aren’t any sandbags, please call the BIMID Office at 925-684-2210 and the locations will be restocked.
Brentwood
2500 Elkins Way
Brentwood residents may utilize the self-filling sand bag station located outside the City’s Cardboard Drop-off gate at 2300 Elkins Way. *Limit 10 bags per household, while supplies last. Residents may report flooding to the Public Works Department, or after hours to Police Dispatch at (925) 809-7911. For more information, call Public Works/Operations (925) 516-6000
Clayton
During City business hours, shovels and bags are located at the maintenance yard, 6000 Heritage Trail, and the sand is located across the creek adjacent to the Keller Ranch house, north of City Hall. During non-business hours, please call Clayton Police Dispatch at (925) 673-7350 for access to the maintenance yard. Sandbags are limited to 50 and are available only to Clayton residents.
Concord
Concord maintains a 24-hour sandbagging station at its Corporation Yard, located at 1455 Gasoline Alley. Sandbags are available and free to Concord residents. Tools and bags are provided. They are available 24/7 during the months of October through April. Updated information is provided through the Concord Sandbag Hotline: (925) 671-3383.
Reports of serious flooding, blocked roadways, and/or trees down can be made directly to Police Dispatch by either calling (925) 671-3333 or 911.
Danville
The sandbag station is located at the Town’s Service Center at 1000 Sherburne Hills Road and provides sand, sandbags, and a shovel in a do-it-yourself setting. Residents can fill sandbags to use for flood prevention at their Danville home or business. There is a limit of 20 bags per household to ensure that there is an adequate supply for the community.
This sandbag station will be in place until the spring when the threat of rain has diminished. The filling station is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For further information regarding the sandbag station, contact Maintenance Services at (925) 314-3450 or visit danville.ca.gov/sandbags.
El Cerrito & Kensington
7501 Schmidt Lane
If you need sandbags to prevent flooding from the street into your driveway, garage, home or business (in preparation before a storm hits or after the storm has arrived), you can obtain a maximum of ten (10) bags per household or business per year. Please bring proof of address. The sand pile and bags are available for El Cerrito and Kensington residents/businesses only. You will need to fill the bags yourself.
There is an enclosure just inside the gate of the El Cerrito Recycling Center (at 7501 Schmidt Lane). During the winter months, it is filled with sand and empty bags are provided. Please check-in at the Recycling Center front desk. — More Info
Lafayette
SANDBAG STATIONS: If you are concerned about flooding on your property, the City stocks self-serve sandbag stations for Lafayette residents and property owners at:
- Corner of Mt Diablo Boulevard at Village Center (across from the Veteran’s Memorial Building)
- Corner of Camino Diablo and Loveland (across from the corporation yard
To insure sufficient sand and bags are available, please only take what you need; If the station needs supplies, notify Public Works by submitting an online Public Works Maintenance Request. Martinez
The City of Martinez shares empty sandbags are available in two locations – and sand in four others. Home Depot and Ace Hardware are alternative places to get sandbags.
Empty Sandbags (limit 10):

- City Corporation Yard – 300 Alhambra Avenue
Sandbag Filling Stations (bring your own shovel):
- Church Street (located in the church parking lot)
- Rankin Aquatic Center (located in the upper parking lot)
- Ferry & Allen Street
- F Street (west end of F Street off Alhambra Ave)
As the rain begins to fall, Moraga-Orinda Fire, the Town of Moraga, and the City of Orinda are ready to assist our residents with sand bags and helpful tips on how to stay safe during a storm. Sand, bags, and a shovel can be found at the following locations:
Moraga
- Rancho Laguna Park parking lot (2101 Camino Pablo).
Orinda
- Fire Station 43 – 20 Via Las Cruces, Orinda
- Fire Station 44 – 295 Orchard Road, Orinda
We encourage residents to take steps and prepare early. To ensure there is sufficient sand and bags available, please only take what is needed for actual or threatened flooding. Sand bags can also be obtained from local home improvement stores for a nominal price.
Pinole
The City of Pinole is located in a low flood zone. During high tides and heavy rainy seasons certain areas in the City may experience some flooding. To assist the citizens of Pinole with flooding preparation, the City offers sandbags on a first come, first serve (self serve), while supply last. Citizens may obtain sand and sandbags at the rear of the Plum Street Public Parking Lot off Tennent Avenue. The material are available for any citizen and are on a self-service basis.
Pittsburg
357 E.12th Street
Protect your home or business from flooding by picking up FREE sandbags at its Corporation Yard at 357 E.12th Street from 7AM-3PM (M-F). There is a limit of 8 sandbags per resident and you must show ID.

- Hawthorne Ln across from Pleasant Oaks park.
- Please limit bags to 20.
The city of Richmond has sandbags available to residents at no cost. Limited to 10 bags and all bags are self-serve (must be filled by resident). Sandbags can also be delivered to the disabled or elderly (call 510-231-3011). Pick up at Bayview Fire Station or Corporation Yard
- Bayview Fire Station (4801 Bayview Avenue) or
- Rear entrance to the Corporation Yard (next to 10 Harbour Way).
San Pablo
Sandbags are a simple, but effective way to prevent or reduce water damage from flooding. Properly placed sand bags act as a barrier to prevent water from getting inside your home. The City of San Pablo provides free sand bags for residents at the entrance of Davis Park at 1665 Folsom Avenue. Sandbags are available 24 hours a day during winter months. As any incoming storms take shape in the fall of each year, the City of San Ramon is prepared to respond. Sandbag supplies are made available for public use. San Ramon residents or businesses that require sand or sandbags must bring a shovel and helping hands to one of four locations for supplies (bags and sand provided):
- Athan Downs, Montevideo Drive near San Ramon Valley Blvd
- Central Park, Alcosta Blvd adjacent to the San Ramon Community Center
- San Ramon Sports Park, Sherwood Way

In preparation for the winter season, the City stocks five sandbag stations as a service for its residents. Sand and bags are available from the City of Walnut Creek at the following locations:
- Lancaster Road near Orchard Lane
- Heather Farm Park Community Center parking lot (north end)
- Larkey Park parking lot
- Howe Homestead Park parking lot
- Rudgear Park parking lot
Bags and sand are provided for residents at the sandbag stations.

County Run Sandbag locations
If you’re concerned about flooding at your home or business when the rainy season hits, you can visit one of the sandbag stations located throughout the county. Please note that you’ll need to bring a shovel, but bags and sand are available for free.
Contra Costa County Sandbag Locations
Ambrose Community Center- 3105 Willow Pass Rd, Bay Point Open M – F , 7 AM – 9 PM
Bring a shovel. Bags are located in a large green plastic trash bin on the west side of parking lot next to the fence line about 3/4 of the way back to the playing field.
Byron Airport- 500 Eagle Court, Byron Open 24 hours, 7 days a week
Bring a shovel. Bags are located in front of the pump house near the flag pole.
County Public Works-2475 Waterbird Way, Martinez Open 24 hours, 7 days a week
Bring a shovel. Bags are in a large gray plastic trash bin located at the parking stall north of the fueling station. Nearest cross street is Imhoff Drive.
Howe Homestead – 2950 Walnut Blvd, Walnut Creek Open 24 hours, 7 days a week
Bring a shovel. Bags and sand located in the parking lot.
Knightsen Farm Bureau/County Agriculture-3020 Second Street, Knightsen Open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Bring a shovel. Bags and sand are located at the north end of the parking lot next to the building.
West County Detention Facility-5555 Giant Highway, Richmond Open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Bring a shovel. Bags are in a large gray plastic trash bin. The sand cradle is on the south side of the facility parking area.
