Fuller Bypassed, Shannon Shaw Appointed Mayor of Oakley

by CC News
Oakley

On Tuesday, the Oakley City Council appointed Shannon Shaw as its next mayor, with Hugh Henderson selected as vice mayor.

While Shaw and Henderson were selected, it did not come without controversy as the City Attorney pointed out Oakley previously had set a rotation where District 5 would be mayor in 2025, with District 4 being vice mayor… next year, District 4 would be mayor, followed by District 3 as vice mayor and continue down the Districts in rotation.

Attorney Derek Cole stated under the current rotation, Councilmemebr George Fuller was set to become mayor should the council keep the rotation, however, it was still up to them to vote and make a decision.

Councilmember Aaron Meadows motioned to appoint Shaw as mayor for 2025.

The city attorney interjected stating Meadows had to cite why Fuller should not be mayor noting it had to meet the criteria of one of the following areas:

  1. Violation of law or city policy or being investigated for a violation
  2. Interpret, rude or disparaging remarks or conduct towards the public staff or council
  3. Lack of leadership or communication skills
  4. Excessive absenteeism
  5. Any other conduct considered to be unprofessional or unbecoming
  6. Does not have available time to assume additional duties

“I would say its two, three and five,” said Meadows.

Fuller interjected, “If you are going to badmouth me, just be open and say what the words are.”

Meadows replied, “sure” and read the grounds to bypass Fuller out loud.  Who then motioned again for Shaw to be appointed mayor which received a second from Williams.  The item passed 4-1 with Fuller dissenting.

Councilmember Anissa Williams nominated Henderson as vice mayor. It was seconded by Shaw. It was approved in a 4-1 vote with Fuller dissenting.

Im thankful the council had the courage to make this decision. Fuller is a complete embarrassment. I can only assume he got reelected on name recognition . He hasn’t done anything positive in his time on the council. He is a complete chauvinist and incompetent bully.

The third candidate split the vote and wound up giving Fuller the majority. Just like the Clinton, Bush 1, Perot election back in ’92

Once a horse’s patoot, always a horse’s patoot. The council made the right decision to abandon the “rotation plan.”
