Brentwood Selects Pierson to Serve as Vice Mayor, Mendoza Bid Denied

On Tuesday night, the Brentwood City Council selected Pa’Tanisha Pierson in a 3-2 vote to serve as vice mayor for the city of Brentwood.

It did not come without controversy as Mayor Susannah Meyer first nominated councilmember Jovita Mendoza for the role of vice mayor. But that motion ultimately did not pass.

“Jovita for me is my backup because I know very well if I need her to do something, even last minute, she will be on it. She will jump on it for the good of the residents, she will be there,” stated Meyer. “She has a track record of doing her homework, being available to residents and showing up. Spending years before being on council supporting the city and residents. While this is a tough decision because I think lots of good options, I am going to make a recommendation that councilmember Mendoza become our vice mayor.”

Pierson chimed in informing the public that the mayor makes a recommendation, but the council makes the vote.

Councilmember Tony Oerlemans stated he believed Pierson should be the vice mayor.

At that point, Mendoza then seconded the motion made by Meyer.

“I am not going to sit here and not fight for myself. I love you Jovita, I think you would be a good job. But I am not going to sit here and not fight for myself,” said Pierson. “I am here for the next two-years, Ms. Mendoza you have four-years. I don’t know if I am running again or not, but I think I would make an amazing vice mayor as well and all the qualities that you recommended in Jovita, I think I have those as well. I don’t think years of tenure should be the reason why. I am just as passionate and available throughout the day, I would be a fool to just sit here and not fight for myself.”

Pierson said hoped fighting for herself would not cause a “rift” between her and Mendoza noting she valued her.

“I don’t know what to say, I am a little bit gobsmacked. I’ve worked so hard for so many years. I think I earned it,” said Mendoza. “I want it. I want to work with the mayor for the next two years and see what I can do for the next two years. I think I would do really well at it. I hope I can get a third to support it.”

At that point Councilmember Faye Maloney chimed in on Zoom, she was out of the country, she believed both Mendoza and Pierson would be amazing at the job, but wanted to give the opportunity to Pierson.

The motion to appoint Mendoza as vice mayor failed in a 2-3 vote with Maloney, Oerlemans and Pierson voting against.

At that point, Oerlemans nominated Pierson to serve in the role of Brentwood vice mayor. It was approved in a 3-2 vote with Meyer and Mendoza dissenting.

Great way to start my day. ” I am a little bit gobsmacked” haha.

What Mendoza needs to be is RECALLED. Her blatant lying and embarrassment of another public servant (Father Robert) as she and her husband did should be enough to start the ball rolling. Mayor Meyer ought to be embarrassed for making such a suggestion knowing this. This speaks volumes of both women.

I hope Ms. Mondoza continues to ‘gobsmacked’. Heaven help us.

“Gobsmacked”? “I think I earned it”? ” I want it”? How does she get through doorways with that swelled head? There’s always one (at least) on every city council who won’t “play nice” and think of the city’s best interests. Ms. Mendoza is the one in Brentwood.

Medonza is a lair nd is. Or good for Brentwood. As a Brentwood reside I don’t like her she is a lair used a local pastor to try and promote herself with his permission and has done some of shady actions. The mayor like her because she is corrupted too.
