Oakley Stolen vehicles

Did you know the Oakley Police Department (OPD) uses the number of stolen vehicles taken and recovered as a barometer for general crime in the area?

Many times vehicles are stolen for the purpose of committing other crimes. Stolen vehicles are one of the key statistics OPD tracks so they can have a clearer picture about what is going on in the community. Often, the PD finds that Oakley’s stolen vehicle investigations intertwine with other cases they are investigating, or even cases from other jurisdictions.

Last year there were 147 vehicles stolen within Oakley’s jurisdiction. So far in 2024, 116 have been stolen (through November 30th).

Chief Paul Beard stated, “While that number may be trending lower, it always remains Oakley PD’s goal to drive that number down even further and identify and arrest those who are responsible for these types of crimes.”

On November 30, 2024, Oakley officers took a report of a 2024 Dodge RAM TRX being stolen during the hours of darkness from the 5000 block of Grapevine Lane. At the time of their initial investigation, they believed the truck had been stolen by the use of a reprogrammed key fob.

On December 1, 2024, at 12:56 AM, Oakley officers stopped a white Acura TLX at Shearwater Way and Puffin Circle for a violation. Officers made contact with the 18-year-old male driver out of Brentwood, and the passenger, a juvenile male out of Oakley. The juvenile was holding a marijuana cigarette in his hand and when officers tried to have the two occupants step out of the car, the driver fled in the vehicle. Officers initiated a pursuit which led to Pioneer Court at Covered Wagon Way. The driver fled on foot and the juvenile was detained at the vehicle. Officers set up a perimeter and solicited the assistance of Brentwood PD, a Sheriff’s Office drone operator, and a Pittsburg PD K9 team to assist.  The driver was not located and after an hour, the search was called off.

During a search of backpacks in the vehicle, two key fob cloning devices were located.  Additionally, officers located the temporary tag for the Dodge RAM TRX that was stolen on November 30th  The juvenile was cite-released to his grandmother on scene. According to OPD, the case remains an active investigation.

Later, on December 1, 2024, officers responded to the 400 block of Coolcrest Drive for male suspects loitering on a victim’s driveway, putting tape over the victim’s security cameras, and tampering with a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack belonging to the victim. Officers were advised the victim was home alone and armed. Officers arrived on scene, but the suspects were gone upon their arrival. The officers located a Dodge Charger Scat Pack at Coolcrest Drive and Winddrift Way that appeared to be freshly stolen and left.

Our officers attempted to contact the owner of the Charger, but were unsuccessful. It appeared the suspects stole the Charger and then pushed it to the location, abandoned it, and then attempted to steal the Challenger on Coolcrest Drive.

Oakley Police Officer Williams began investigating and developed an investigative lead to follow in regards to the Scat Pack Charger and Challenger. These cases also seemed to be connected to the RAM TRX that was stolen on November 30th and stolen vehicle cases in Antioch.

On December 2, 2024, at 3:27 AM, Oakley officers received an alert indicating a black 2022 BMW M5 was stolen out of Livermore and alerting at Laurel Road and Neroly Road. Officers began circulating and located the BMW at a 7-11 store with a male pumping gas and a female walking away into the store. The male then walked into the store. The officers set a perimeter around the building and made entry, taking Hannah Tennyson (32, Livermore) into custody. Tennyson was determined to be the thief, stealing the BMW from her parents, and they desired prosecution. Tennyson was transported to Martinez Detention Facility and booked into jail. The male was released on scene.

On December 13, 2024, at 12:58 PM, in the 1300 block of Portsmouth Street, a female resident heard her father’s Ford F250 truck start up and saw it driven away. She got into her vehicle and followed the stolen vehicle where she caught up to it on Birmingham Street. The female saw a male exit her father’s stolen truck. The female exchanged words with the male suspect who then fled with a female companion in another white Ford truck with front end damage. They presumably arrived in the area in that particular truck. Oakley officers arrived on scene shortly after but were unable to locate the suspects. The female drove her father’s stolen truck home.

At 2:27 PM, Officer Johnson was in the area of Creekside Park when a concerned group of citizens at the park reported a white Ford truck with front end damage driving around the neighborhood in a reckless manner. Officer Johnson believed the truck was likely related to the earlier investigation and alerted his partners, and a few minutes later he spotted the truck on Laurel Road at Creekside Way being driven by the same male who stole the Ford F-250 truck from Portsmouth Street.

Officer Johnson attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the male fled through the neighborhood south of Creekside Park. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle struck a mailbox and continued driving. The suspect vehicle drove to the end of White Oak Court and into Oak Grove Park where the driver and female passenger fled on foot. A loaded firearm was located on the front seat of the vehicle.

A perimeter was formed in the area, and an Antioch K-9 responded along with Oakley PD Officer B. Jackson, operating a drone. Officers conducted a search of the area and spotted the two suspects hiding under a chicken coop in the backyard of a residence on Old Oak Court. Christian Avila (Santa Clara, 30) and Diana Martinez-Osuna (San Jose, 30) were placed under arrest. The suspect vehicle was determined to be stolen out of San Jose. Suspected methamphetamine was located on Avila. Both suspects were booked into jail.

On December 15, 2024, at 8:21 PM, Officer Williams was on patrol at Rubens Way and Michelangelo Drive when he saw a Chrysler 300 exhibiting equipment issues. Officer Williams pulled the Chrysler 300 over to investigate further. Officer Williams made contact with the driver, Oshae Knockum (20, local) and developed even more suspicions about the vehicle and its VIN number and its engine. Officer Williams determined the engine was from a stolen and stripped 2018 Dodge Hellcat out of San Jose. Knockum was taken into custody for possession of stolen property and fraudulent DMV registration.

Chief Beard stated, “We do pay attention to certain key statistics to help us enhance the services we provide the residents and business owners of Oakley. Some of this is still under active investigation so I cannot provide full details yet, but I will do so when I can.

Criminals beware! The officers of the Oakley Police Department are diligent in detecting crime and locating offenders. It is our desire to see no crime occurring at all, but if it does, and if you are the one committing it, we will commit our resources towards finding you and arresting you. A strong and dedicated police force provides a degree of safety for our residents and a deterrent to criminals; our residents and business owners will always get the best service from us possible.”

“The juvenile was cite-released to his grandmother on scene.” Therein lies the core of the problem. No parents and no parenting.
