The Pleasant Hill Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured an adult male and a child. Two arrests have been made.
On December 23, 2024, at about 11:49AM, the Pleasant Hill Police received several calls about numerous gunshots in the area of Contra Costa Blvd and Vivian Dr. Responding officers were quickly able to locate three vehicles that were involved in the incident.
The driver of one of the vehicles, Larry NEAL, was struck by gunfire in the hand. A 7-year-old child was inside one of the involved vehicles and sustained minor injuries. Both were treated and released from local hospitals.
The investigation shows that this incident began as a custody dispute between the parents of the injured child and was not a random act. The occupants of two of the vehicles exchanged gunfire with one another at close range. Contra Costa Blvd was closed to traffic for several hours but has since reopened.

Pleasant Hill Police Investigate Gunfight on Contra Costa Blvd
The Pleasant Hill Police Department is investigating a gunfight between parties in two vehicles Monday in the City of Pleasant Hill.
According to Police Chief Scott Vermillion, the shooting occurred at 11:49 am when dispatch began receiving multiple reports of shots fired involving two different vehicles at Contra Costa Blvd at Vivian Drive Drive. Officers responded where they were able to stop the vehicle ½ mile north of the original scene at Contra Costa Blvd and Harriet Drive.
UPDATE: Contra Costa is closed Northbound at Ellinwood and Southbound at Doris due to police activity. Please avoid the area.
Vermillion said the vehicle had at least four bullet holes in the vehicle, and multiple other shots were fired in the incident. They located one occupant in the vehicle who had been wounded in the hand. The adult male was transported to an area hospital.
Pleasant Hill Police investigators are still actively working the case and preliminary information shows this was possibly related to a domestic dispute (not road rage as originally believed). Police said the parties know each other and may be released to a court issue involving child custody or a domestic relationship.
Police said due to two crime scenes, northbound Contra Costa Blvd. is closed and will reopen late Monday afternoon. No arrests have been made as of 1:45 pm.
