On December 11, local dignitaries, government officials, donors and trade partners joined Yellow Roof Foundation for a ceremonial ribbon cutting and unveiling of the latest Yellow Roof community of income-based, affordable homes for families at risk of homelessness in Oakley.
Eight families and individuals will move into the community, named Gonsalves Landing in honor of East Bay business leader and Yellow Roof supporter Steve Gonsalves and his late wife, Debra. Gonsalves Landing is built on surplus land acquired by Yellow Roof from the City of Oakley for the creation of the new and much-needed affordable homes
During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Yellow Roof celebrated its partnerships, while introducing the eight residences: Gonsalves House, Marques House, Benson-Snow House, Marilyn House, Covenant House, Mike & Laurie Rose House, Gutridge House and Montero House.
Yellow Roof has worked closely with the City of Oakley on the creation of Gonsalves Landing which features four single-family residences, each with an Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) so that a total of eight families will call the community home. The homes range from approximately 740 to 1,475 square feet, with one- and three-bedroom plans available. The property is in a central location in Oakley with great access to employment and transportation centers.
With the generosity of these building industry professionals, Gonsalves Landing affordable rental homes were brought to life truly affordably: Airport Appliances, All American Fence, Barbosa Cabinets, Capo Building Specialties, Cemcon, Inc., Cencal Plastering, Citadel Roofing & Solar, Discovery Wall Systems, DP Advanced Engineering, Foothill Fire, Gilwin Company, Independent Construction, Infinity Glass, Interior Logic, Keystone Building Materials, Moore Biological Consultants, Lapham Window, OJ Insulation, Pacific Coast Landscape, Power Plus, Rescue Electric, SDG Architects, S&K Nellis Painting, Silvermark Construction Services, Smith & Associates, Stevens Ferrone & Baily, Timberworks, TWC, Value Plumbing, vanderToolen Associates.
December has been a monumental month for Yellow Roof. Last week Yellow Roof officials were joined by California State Senator Tim Grayson and Concord city officials for a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil Grayson Village which features three one-bedroom rental units, each with approximately 500 square feet of living space, for those at risk of homelessness.
Grayson Village is the result of a $1 million grant from the State of California, through the City of Concord, to support Yellow Roof. Senator Grayson played an integral role in securing the grant for Yellow Roof while he served as a member of the California Assembly. He won a seat in the State Senate in the recent November election, and Grayson Village is named in his honor.
The mission of Yellow Roof, a 501(c)(3) public charity founded by Dave and Lori Sanson, owners of Concord-based DeNova Homes, is to assist those who are hardworking, contributing members of their community but are experiencing hard times.
