The Walnut Creek Police Department announced the arrest of a 16-year-old from San Jose in connection with a fatal crash on Saturday.
According to police, on December 28, 2024, at about 2:36 a.m., Walnut Creek Police officers were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision on the 1600 block of Newell Avenue underneath the Highway 680 overpass. A Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was first on scene and was performing CPR on an injured juvenile male when Walnut Creek Police officers and medical personnel arrived.
The juvenile was transported by ambulance to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Members of Police Department’s Major Accident Investigations Team (MAIT) investigated the collision scene and determined that five juveniles had occupied the vehicle prior to the collision. Three occupants, one of whom was believed to be the driver, fled the scene on foot after the collision. Officers located the juvenile male driver in San Jose and arrested him for vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run.
This case continues to be under investigation, and the names of the driver, victim, and passengers are not being released since all are juveniles.
