Antioch to Appoint New Acting Chief of Police

by CC News
Antioch Police Department

On Tuesday, Antioch City Manager Bessie Marie Scott will announce the selection of a new acting chief of police for the Antioch Police Department.

The move comes as interim police chief, Brian Addington, re-retires. Last February, the city announced Addington was un-retiring after serving 9-years as the Pittsburg Police Chief. He was selected to serve as interim chief for Antioch until a permanent chief was appointed.

The announcement of who will be appointed will come Tuesday morning during a press conference at 10:00 am.  The new acting chief will introduce themselves, the outgoing interim chief of police will speak, and the Mayor will speak.

I am struggling to understand the practical difference between an “acting” chief and an “interim” chief. As far as filling all those vacant management slots with competent “permanent” hires, its understandable that will take some time given the damage inflicted over the past four years.
