Candace Andersen Set to be Chair, Scales-Preston Sworn in as Supervisor

On Tuesday, January 14, at 9:00 am the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors will hold its annual Reorganization Meeting, where the new Chair and Vice Chair will be sworn in.

On October 8, 2024, Supervisor Andersen was selected to be the 2025 Chair and Supervisor Diane Burgis the Vice Chair by their colleagues.

After winning their 2024 elections, Supervisors Candace Andersen, Diane Burgis and new District 5 County Supervisor Shanelle Scales-Preston will also be sworn in to their four-year terms by Contra Costa County Superior Court Presiding Judge Christopher Bowen. Supervisor Andersen was first elected in 2012 and this will be her 4th term.

On January 3, 2025, Supervisor Shanelle Scales-Preston made history as she was sworn in as the first woman and first Black woman to serve on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. The ceremony, held at the Marina Community Center in Pittsburg, drew an overflowing and enthusiastic crowd of public officials, community leaders, family, and supporters from across the region.

In a powerful and symbolic moment, Supervisor Scales-Preston was sworn in by her predecessor, Supervisor Federal Glover, the first Black Supervisor to serve on the Board. This momentous occasion marked not just a transition of leadership but a celebration of resilience, representation, and progress.

During her heartfelt speech, Supervisor Scales-Preston expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported her grassroots campaign. She emphasized her commitment to being “the people’s Supervisor” and her dedication to championing policies that uplift all residents in District V and beyond.
