The Brentwood Police Department announced an Antioch man was taking into custody after brandishing a firearm at Safeway.
According to police, on Friday (1/10/25) around 8:30PM, Brentwood officers were called to the Safeway on Second Street for a report of a suspect brandishing a firearm. The victim, stated that the suspect had brandished a firearm and threatened the victim.
When officers arrived on scene, they saw that the suspect was still on scene inside his vehicle. The officers conducted a “high risk car stop” on the car.
A high risk stop is a police procedure for safely stopping a vehicle suspected of a serious crime where suspect(s) may be armed.
The officers safely took the driver, identified as 28 year-old Giovanny Gomez of Antioch, into custody. A loaded firearm was also found inside the vehicle Gomez was driving.
Gomez, was placed under arrest for assault with a firearm, criminal threats and other related charges. He was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for booking.
