The Pinole Police Department announced a Pinole Middle School teacher saved the life of a 13-year-old student who was choking on food– they announced this week a Commendation for Ms. Fay – Life-Saving Action.
According to police, on December 9, 2024, at 10 AM, Ms. Fay, a dedicated teacher at Pinole Middle School, saved the life of a 13-year-old student choking on a salami sandwich. When she heard alarming gasping noises, Ms. Fay immediately recognized the emergency, assessed the situation, and performed the Heimlich maneuver. Within 60 seconds, the food was expelled, and the student was able to breathe again.
Police said thanks to Ms. Fay’s quick and decisive action, a tragedy was averted. Her courage, attentiveness, and professionalism exemplify the best in educators.
“The Pinole Police Department commends Ms. Fay’s heroism and reminds us of the importance of knowing First Aid and CPR. You never know when these vital skills might be needed, and your knowledge could make all the difference in an emergency,” said police in a statement.
