Join the community for several Martin Luther King Jr events, ceremonies and celebrations across Contra Costa County on Monday, January 20.  — MLK Day of Service.

Events are located in the cities of Antioch, El Cerrito, Martinez, Pittsburg, Richmond, and San Ramon. Either others out of county in Oakland and Solano County.

On Tuesday, The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the 47th Annual Commemoration Event at 11 am in the Board of Supervisors Chambers 1025 Escobar St., in Martinez.


NAACP MLK Prayer Breakfast (Pittsburg)

8:00 am — Welcome to the East Contra Costa County NAACP MLK Prayer Breakfast! Come join us at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Junior High School for a morning filled with reflection, community, and celebration. This in-person event will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through prayer, breakfast, and inspiring speeches. Let’s come together to commemorate Dr. King’s vision of equality and justice for all. City of Antioch Host Day of Service Event

Join the City of Antioch for its Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service on January 20 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at multiple locations. Antioch Unified School District MLK Event

Join the Antioch Unified School District as it hosts a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr event featuring live performances – including recording artist Niecey and Ashling Cole. Keynote speaker will include Otha Thornton, Past National PTA President. The event is from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Deer Valley High School (4700 Lone Tree Way, Antioch, CA).


El Cerrito Hosts MLK Celebration + Parade & Rally

Join El Cerrito on Monday, January 20, 2025 for its MLK Celebration and parade which kicks off at 9:00 am at City Hall followed by a Rally and program at El Cerrito HS at 11:00 am.

Martinez Waterfront Cleanup

Join the Friends of Alhambra Creek and other community members for a Martinez Waterfront Cleanup on Monday, January 20th, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Meetup is at 9:30 am at the Martinez Marina parking lot. Please bring your own gloves and any other safety gear or outdoor cleanup equipment you may have (like long handled pickers); garbage bags will be provided but you may also bring your own.

North Richmond: Day of Service Event

Join Urban Tilth on January 20th, 2025, for The Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service, an opportunity to step up to make our communities more equitable and to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Sign up for free through the link in our bio, and join us at the North Richmond Farm to participate in our exciting multi-phase progress! The farm is a fantastic space rooted in a genuine community! A list of activities and instructions are below.

Planting: In 2025, on Dr. King Day, we invite you to plant in Dr. Henry Clark Plaza and our orchard and crop row classrooms. (Our Watershed Team and North Richmond Farm Collective will lead us in this effort.)

Artistry: After planting, we invite you to enjoy great music by DJ Darrell Davis, nibble on the delicious eats by Chef Ayesha, and take in the gifted artistry of Sonjay Odds, Donte Clark, Isabella Walker, and Anjaleeah Golson.

Special Thanks to Our Young Artist: In continuing to support our local community’s gifts and talents, we thank Lathel Douglas for providing us with the artwork for our t-shirts, zine, and flier for this event.

Instructions: Please bring your water bottle and wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. They are located at 323 Brookside Drive, Richmond — enter on Fred Jackson Way. Staff will direct you to the parking areas and the welcome/check-in table.

The San Ramon Community is invited to join the City of San Ramon, SRV Diversity Coalition, Town of Danville, SRVUSD, Diablo Black Men’s Group, and PLAG-SRV to the 4th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Open Mic Celebration. The event is being held  Monday, January 20, 2025 at San Ramon City Hall Rotunda


EBRPD Hosts Day of Service Event (Oakland)

MLK Jr. Community Day of Service is on Monday, January 20, 2025, at MLK Jr. Regional Shoreline.We are hosting volunteer projects at the following MLK Shoreline Locations

Tuesday: 47th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ceremony

Martinez, CA – The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the 47th Annual Commemoration Event on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, at 11 am in the Board of Supervisors Chambers 1025 Escobar St., in Martinez.

“No work is insignificant, and we are fortunate to honor a Humanitarian and two Student Humanitarians of the Year, who bring to life Dr. King’s vision through their service to our community,” said Board Chair Supervisor Candace Andersen.

The theme of the event is “Celebrating Our Shared Humanity.” The celebration will feature keynote speaker Mitchell Hopson who is a strategic financial and business operations professional. Mitchell is an active community member serving on various volunteer boards and organizations.

The Board will honor Adult Humanitarian of the Year, Rodney “Alamo” Brown, and Student Humanitarians of the Year, Soha and Imran Sohail Guller, from San Ramon Valley High School in Danville, CA. Their passionate leadership, advocacy, and community service have improved the lives of Contra Costa County residents and reflect the spirit of Dr. King’s work and achievements.

The program also includes performances by Dougherty Valley High School Choir, Stephen Sharpe the Poet Laureate for the City of Richmond, and an Invocation given by Reverend Dr. Carole McKindley-Alvarez.
