UPDATE: City of Oakley

At 5:33PM on January 19, 2025, Oakley officers were dispatched to the railroad tracks at Big Break Road and Main Street to investigate a vehicle that had been struck by a train. Our officers arrived and found a female near the collision site. Our officers determined the female was the driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, and she began experiencing vehicle problems as she was approaching the tracks.

The female drove off of the road right at one set of the tracks, seemingly in an attempt to move her vehicle off of the road. The vehicle became stuck on the tracks because of this movement. The female saw a train was coming at her while she was stuck so she got out of her vehicle to avoid injury, or worse. The train hit the vehicle causing major damage to the vehicle.

It did not appear as if there were any intoxication issues associated with this incident, but investigation was turned over to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway Police Department for investigation.

Please make sure that when pulling over near train tracks, you have cleared the actual tracks. We encourage you to save the train emergency hotline number for the BNSF Resource Operations Call Center, 1-800-832-5452, in your phone or in your glovebox. The center is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
