On Tuesday, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office will report Tuesday that bookings in county jail were up in 2024 when compared to 2023.
According to the booking data at Martinez Detention Facility, there were a total of 14,700 bookings in 2024 – compared to 13,900 in 2023. Meanwhile, the total number of custody alternative bookings were also up with a total of 1794 in 2024 –compared to 1,587 in 2023.
Within the report, the Sheriff is now tracking arrests “by city” and fentanyl related deaths.

Meanwhile, the Sheriff reports that in 2024, the operating costs for the Custody Alternative Facility was $36 per day versus $268 for detention. CAF operated with a $4,986,885 budget for fiscal year 2023-24.

A new addition to the report, which was requested by Supervisor Diane Burgis during the last report, was showing where the arresting city of where a person was from. That has now been added to the overall data – however, because it was only just started to be collected, its for Q4. (Note -It is not known when the Sheriff Office started breaking down the city data)
