A Monday morning lockdown after a school threat at Black Diamond Middle School in the City of Antioch has been lifted.

According to the Antioch Unified School District, the Antioch Police Department has lifted the lockdown. Classes were cancelled for Monday.

“Dear BDMS Families,

This morning at 8:00 AM, several parents alerted us to a concerning message posted by a student on social media. In response, we immediately placed the campus on lockdown to ensure the safety of everyone on site. The 52 students currently on campus were safely relocated to the cafeteria and theater as a precaution. Following a thorough investigation,  APD has confirmed there is no threat to our campus or students, and the situation has been resolved.

Classes will not be held today. However, staff will remain on campus while parents pick up their students. Please note that students will not be allowed to walk or ride their bikes home. Parents must check out their students through the school office.

We extend our gratitude to the parent who promptly brought this matter to our attention and to the APD for their swift and thorough response.

School will resume tomorrow at the regular time. All practices and after-school activities scheduled for today are canceled.

We take all threats seriously and act decisively to maintain a safe and secure environment for our students. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”

The lockdown began around 8:00 am and continued until about 10:45 am Monday. Both AUSD and APD confirmed the lockdown but did not release any information as the incident was still active and under investigation around 9:30 am.

No other information has been released.

3:45 PM UPDATE via Antioch Police Department

The school threat was unsubstantiated.  A vague social media postings were going around about a student who was involved in an off-campus fight was going to bring a gun to school.    Officers were able to locate the student involved and contacted their parents.  No firearm was found to have been brought to school.

During this investigation, officers were made aware of another student who made prior criminal threats and had brandished a firearm. The firearm used in the independent threats case was never brought to school and has since been seized.  Officers will be doing extra patrols and will be highly visible around the school.
