1 Dead in Brentwood House Fire

One person died Wednesday night in a house fire in the City of Brentwood, according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

Just after 11:00 pm Wednesday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a fire in the 800 block of Nicholas Ct in the City of Brentwood.

Fire crews arrived on scene to smoke coming from the garage while also being alerted by neighbors of a handicap male who lived in the house and was possibly still inside. The fire was ultimately changed from a exterior fire to a rescue where they discovered a deceased man in the garage. Flames had also extended from the garage to the attic.

“We had a report for an exterior fire where 1 engine is dispatched and it was determined there was a structure fire and a full structure fire response was requested,” said Battalion Chief Brandon Burruss “Once we had more units on scene, we were able to locate the victim. And that victim was located in the garage.”

The victim was confirmed deceased on scene.

CONFIRE said one of the challenges in this fire was the fire had been burning for a while and this was a 3,000 sq foot home with many hazard with the fire had ran from the garage to the attic while it was also pouring rain.

According to Karmen Watson, a neighbor, this was the second major fire on the street since 2023.

The Brentwood Police Department also responded to the incident along with AMR.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation as fire crews cleared the scene around 5:00 am Thursday.
