School Resource Officer

The Oakley Police Department has announced Officer Garrett Wayne will serve as the first school resource officer for the Oakley Union Elementary School District.

The City of Oakley has formed a partnership with the Oakley Union Elementary School District to provide police services to the Delta Vista Middle School and O’Hara Park Middle School campuses.

Oakley Police Officer Garrett Wayne will serve as the first School Resource Officer (SRO) for these campuses; he is uniquely qualified for this duty based on his overall performance as a peace officer and his previous assignment as the SRO for Freedom High School. On February 10, 2025 Officer Wayne made his first appearance on the campuses and he has been busy all week getting to know the staff, students and parents.

Officer Wayne was hired as one of the founding members of the Oakley Police Department in 2016; before that he served as a Clayton police officer. Officer Wayne is married and a father and he enjoys spending time with his family. He is also a sports fanatic and he enjoys helping out and giving back to his communities.

In his role as the SRO for the two middle school campuses, Officer Wayne will be focused first and foremost on, providing site safety and security to the students, staff and the campuses. Officer Wayne will also promote positive relations between the two school communities and the police department and he will cheerfully provide general law-enforcement services to the two campuses.

Chief Beard said “I am very glad to see this partnership between the police department and our schools. This will allow us to provide direct and vital law-enforcement services to all middle school students, no matter what their background may be. I truly believe Officer Wayne is the best choice we could have made and I am confident our middle schools will feel well served by him. It is my hope the overwhelming majority of these students will move on to high school without realizing they were receiving our services but remember the positive influence a police officer had on them during this time of their life.”
