The Concord Police Department identified Lucas Ray Smith, as the armed robbery suspect shot and killed by a store employee.
According to Concord Police, on Friday, February 21, 2025, around 11:30 pm, Concord Police officers responded to a 911 call from S&S Fast & Easy Market, located at 3200 Willow Pass Road.
Upon their arrival, officers located a forty-one year old male, Lucas Ray Smith, who was deceased.
Subsequent preliminary investigation showed that Smith entered the business armed with a shotgun, pointed it at an employee, and demanded access to the store’s safe. He then forced the employee into the back of the store at gunpoint. The employee grabbed the shotgun to disarm Smith and they became engaged in a physical fight.
A second employee heard and saw what was occurring and intervened by arming himself with a legally possessed handgun and ultimately fired one round at Smith, striking him, and killing him while he was still engaged in the struggle with the first employee.
Both store employees were cooperative with the investigation and voluntarily provided statements. Neither were placed under arrest.
The Concord Police Department is continuing to investigate this case and will ultimately present it to the Contra Costa County District Attorney for review. As the investigation is still ongoing, police said they have no further information to release.
