Two dogs are dead after a garage fire broke out Friday night in the City of Antioch.

The fire was first reported at 5:38 pm coming from a home on Daphne Court off Sunset in Antioch–smoke was observed from 3-blocks away by firefighters. Smoke and flames were reported and upon arrival, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters confirmed a working garage fire with heavy smoke and flames. All occupants were reported outside the home, however, it was believed dogs were still inside.

By 5:44 pm, CONFIRE believed the fire extended into the home and possibly the attic, however, the fire was soon knocked down and by 6:05 pm, firefighters were in overhaul.

It was later reported by a family member that two dogs had passed away in the fire, possibly due to smoke.

Contra Costa County Fire have not yet identified a cause, however, aside from damage to the home, three vehicles also sustained damage from the heat from the garage fire– which included a Porsche and Mercedes Benz’s 600. Also damaged was a collectors Oldsmobile Cutlass.

The resident confirmed he had a kennel in the garage with dogs he was raising saying all of the dogs got out unharmed by the fire, later, however, another family member said two of the dogs were deceased.

Antioch Police Department officers also responded to the scene along with AMR. No other injuries were reported and no other details have been released.
