Feb 16 – March 1: El Cerrito Police Calls

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito police calls between February 9-15 according to the  El Cerrito Police Department. It was also recently announced that the  El Cerrito Police Announces Use of Facial Recognition Software

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

February 16th

  • Nothing to report.

February 17th

  • Vandalism – 10572 San Pablo Ave. (Insta Fix Phone Repair):  At 5:37 AM, an officer reports a suspect threw a large chunk of concrete through the side window of the business, shattering the glass.
  • Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave. / Fairmount Ave.  At 3:13 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During a DUI investigation, officers found the suspect to be under the influence and far too intoxicated to stand on their own. The driver was transported to a local hospital by AMR and given a citation.

February 18th

  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Probation Violation – Ohlone Greenway / Conlon Ave. At 12:52 AM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop. A records check of the subject found the subject to be on both probation and parole. Officers conducted a probation search of the subject and located drug paraphernalia on their persons. The subject was arrested and while en-route to the police department, had a medical episode. AMR responded and provided medical treatment. The subject was issued with a citation and transported to a local hospital.
  • Warrant Arrest – Carlson Blvd. / San Diego St. At 1:26 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the investigation, officers found the driver had an outstanding warrant for their arrest. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross): At 7:01 PM, a suspect entered the store, selected items, and fled the store prior to police arrival.
  • Warrant Arrest / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia –  San Pablo Ave. / Lincoln Ave.  At 4:09 AM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop. A records check of the subject found the subject to have an outstanding warrant. During a search incident to arrest, the subject was found in possession of narcotics. The subject was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

February  19th

  • Warrant Arrest / Parole Violation / False Identification to a Peace Officer /  Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls Parking Lot):  At 2:02 PM, an officer found a suspicious vehicle and learned the vehicle was wanted by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office for evading police. Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the investigation, officers discovered two of the occupants had warrants for their arrest out of Alameda County, while the third occupant lied about their name. Officers discovered the identity of the occupant and found the subject was a parolee-at-large. During a search incident to arrest, officers found that suspect to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. All three suspects were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.  The vehicle was impounded on scene.
  • Brandishing a Firearm / Criminal Threats – San Pablo Ave. / Central Ave.   At 3:08 PM, a victim reports being in a road-rage argument where an occupant of the suspect’s vehicle brandished a firearm at the victim and threatened to shoot.  The victim fled the area and prior to notifying the police.
  • Grand Theft – 7100 block of Potrero Ave. At 3:47 PM, an officer was notified of copper wires that were stolen.
  • Warrant Arrest – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS): At 6:03 PM, officers responded to a shoplift in progress. Officers located and arrested the suspect. A records check found the suspect to have several warrants for their arrest. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Mail Theft – 1200 Block of Liberty St. At 7:27 PM, a victim reports a suspect stole their package off their porch.
  • Vandalism – 10200 Block of San Pablo Ave. At 7:45 PM, the victim reports two suspects spray painted another building located on the property.  The suspects fled prior to police arrival.

February 20th

  • Warrant Arrest – 11344 San Pablo Ave. (Dennys): At 5:45 AM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop. During the investigation, officers found the subject had a warrant for their arrest. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Robbery – 9800 San Pablo Ave. (Wells Fargo Parking Lot): At 10:48 AM, a victim reports a suspect shattered the front passenger window of the victim’s vehicle and stole property.  The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon – San Pablo Ave. / Central Ave. At 6:30 PM, officers responded to a road-rage incident where the victim reported they were being followed. While driving to the police department, the suspect swerved and attempted to hit the victim’s vehicle. After arriving at the back lot of the police department, the suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

February 21st

  • Grand Theft – 7100 block of Potrero Ave. At 10:20 AM, an officer reports theft of copper wires.
  • Warrant Arrest – Moeser Ln. / Shevlin Dr. At 11:00 AM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop. A records check of the driver found the driver to have a warrant. The driver was cited and released on scene.
  • Warrant Arrest – Arlington Blvd. / Roberta Dr. At 11:20 AM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop. A records check of the driver found the driver had a warrant for their arrest. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Grand Theft – 1000 block of Contra Costa Dr. At 5:30 PM, a victim reports suspects stole property from out of a residential driveway. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.
  • Robbery – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 10:15 PM, an officer reports security had contacted a suspect who was attempting to leave the store with unpaid merchandise. During the contact, the suspect assaulted security and fled the scene prior to police arrival.

February 22nd

  • Card Skimmer – 7022 Stockton Ave. (7-Eleven): At 12:34 PM, an employee discovered a skimming device on one of the point-of-sale card readers.

February 23rd

  • Driving Under the Influence – Knott Ave. / Junction Ave. At 12:20 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During a DUI investigation,  officers found the driver to be under the influence. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation to a sober relative.
  • Theft from Vehicle – 1700 Block of Arlington Blvd. At 8:47 AM, an officer reports that on 02/21/2025, a suspect stole the victim’s credit card from their unlocked vehicle.
  • Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreens): At 12:57 PM, an officer reports a suspect stole from the business and fled prior to police arrival.
  • Robbery / Felon in Possession of a Loaded Firearm – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 2:22 PM, officers responded to Safeway for a report of a suspect who stole the victim’s property. Upon arrival, the victim pointed out the suspect to officers. When officers contacted the suspect, the suspect began fighting with officers. The suspect was arrested and later searched. During the search incident to arrest, officers located a loaded firearm in the suspect’s possession. Officers conducted a records check and discovered the suspect was a convicted felon. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Warrant Arrest – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway):  While at the above call, the suspect’s significant other attempted to retrieve the suspect’s property. Officers conducted a records check and found the suspect’s significant other to have an outstanding warrant for their arrest. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention.
  • Residential Burglary – 1600 Block of Arlington Blvd. At 8:31 PM, an officer reports a suspect broke into the victim’s home and stole property. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

February 24th

  • Robbery – 9800 San Pablo Ave. (Wells Fargo parking lot): At 9:50 AM, the victim reports that while sitting in their parked vehicle, a suspect shattered the victim’s window and stole their bags.  The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.
  • Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Wall Ave. At 10:27 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the investigation, officers found the driver had a warrant for their arrest. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross): At 10:55 AM, an officer reports a suspect stole items and fled the scene prior to police arrival.
  • Theft – 1700 Block of Liberty St. At 10:33 PM, an officer reports a suspect stole the victim’s property.

February 25th

  • Nothing to report.

February 26th

  • Petty Theft – 3090 El Cerrito Plaza (Starbucks): At 6:26 AM, an officer reports a suspect entered the business and took the victim’s beverage from the counter. The suspect fled the business prior to police arrival.

February 27th

  • Attempted Robbery – Central Ave. / Kearney St. At 9:46 PM, an officer reports the victim was walking home when they were confronted by three suspects who demanded the victim’s property. The victim fled from the area and called 911.

February 28th

  • Shoplifting / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):  At 1:50 PM, officers were flagged down by an employee regarding a theft that recently occurred. Officers located, positively identified and arrested the suspect. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Burglary – 540 Ashbury Ave. (El Cerrito High School):  At 5:13 PM, an officer reports a suspect entered the high school after hours and stole backpacks.
  • Battery – San Pablo Ave. / Carlson Blvd. At 7:06 PM, the victim reports they were involved in a road rage incident that resulted in the victim being battered.
  • Shoplifting – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls): At 8:17 PM, an officer reports a suspect stole items and fled from the business. Responding officers located and positively identified the suspect. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

March 1st

  • Petty Theft from Vehicle – 1400 block of Lawrence Ct. At 10:09 AM, an officer reports that between 4:00 PM on 02/28/2025 and 10:00 AM on 03/01/2025, a suspect stole property out of the victim’s unlocked vehicle.
  • Petty Theft from Vehicle – 2000 block of Harper St. At 10:14 AM, an officer reports that between 9:00 AM on 02/25/2025 and 10:14 AM on 03/01/2025, a suspect stole cash from the center console of the victim’s unlocked vehicle.
  • Petty Theft (From Vehicle) – 1500 block of Richmond St. At 11:41 AM, an officer reports that between 8:10 PM on 02/28/2025 and 11:40 hours on 03/01/2025, a suspect stole property out of the victim’s unlocked vehicle.
  • Shoplifting – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls): At 5:43 PM, an officer reports a suspect stole items and fled prior to police arrival.
  • Vandalism – 11575 San Pablo Ave. (Church’s Chicken): At 6:18 PM, an officer reports a suspect shattered a large glass window of the business. Responding officers located and positively identified the suspect. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
