March 2-15: El Cerrito Police Calls

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito police calls between March 2-15 according to the  El Cerrito Police Department.  It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

March 2nd

  • Shoplift – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 12:53 PM, a suspect stole items from the business and fled prior to police arrival.
  • Burglary – 5400 block of Barrett Ave.  At 2:17 PM, a suspect shattered the side door of a residence and made entry.  The suspect was scared off by the resident and fled the area with no property.
  • Burglary – 3400 block of Belmont Ave. At 6:17 PM, an officer reported two suspects stole property from within the victim’s vehicle. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.
  • Burglary – 10057 San Pablo Ave. (Ace Hardware): At 12:50 AM, two suspects shattered a window and entered the business. The suspects took items and fled in an awaiting vehicle.
  • Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Moeser Ln. At 2:47 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During a investigation, officers found the driver had an outstanding warrant for their arrest. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

March 3rd

  • Attempt Vehicle Theft – 6500 block of Knott Ave. At 11:45 PM, a Community Service Officer reports a suspect attempted to steal the victim’s vehicle sometime between 9:00 PM on 03/02/2025 and 10:00 PM on 03/03/2025.
  • Warrant Arrest – 280 El Cerrito Plaza: At 1:30 AM, officers responded to a business for an alarm and contacted a subject near the business. Officers conducted a records check of the subject and found the subject had an outstanding warrant for their arrest. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

March 4th

  • Theft – 10900 block of San Pablo Ave. At 9:58 AM, a victim reports a suspect stole tools from the their vehicle and fled the area.
  • Warrant Arrest – Schmidt Ln. / San Pablo Ave. At 11:37 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During an investigation, officers found the driver to have an outstanding warrant for their arrest. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation.
  • Burglary – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24-Hour Fitness): At 12:21 PM, the suspect forced open a locker and stole the victim’s property.
  • Burglary – 1700 block of Elm St. At 4:11 PM, a victim reports that sometime over the weekend, a suspect forced their way through a garage window and stole property.
  • Recovered Stolen Vehicles – 2000 block of Key Blvd. At 7:40 PM, officers recovered three unoccupied stolen vehicles.
  • Petty Theft – 11163 San Pablo Ave. (Plank and Power): At 8:40 PM, three suspects entered the business and stole wallets from customers’ bags.  The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival.
  • Vandalism – 1200 block of Brewster Dr. At 5:29 AM, a suspect shattered the window of the victim’s vehicle and fled the area prior to police arrival.

March 5th

  • Convicted Felon in Possession of a Concealed Loaded Unserialized Firearm with a Large Capacity Magazine / Possession of Drugs for Sale / Warrant Arrest  – Ohlone Greenway / Blake St. At 8:52 AM, officers responded to a report of possible domestic violence on the Ohlone Greenway. Officers contacted and detained the two subjects.  During a search of one of the subjects, officers located a loaded un-serialized handgun concealed in their waistband.  Officers also found the subject to be in possession of drugs for sale. Officers conducted a records check of the second subject and found the subject to have two warrants for their arrest out of Napa County.  Both subjects were arrested and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department. One subject was released with a citation for their warrants while the second subject was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Stolen Vehicle – 2000 block of Key Blvd. At 8:59 AM, an officer reports a victim tracked their stolen vehicle via GPS to the above location.  Officers located and released the unoccupied vehicle to the owner.
  • Robbery –  10000 block of San Pablo Ave. At 3:19 PM, a victim reports having a conversation with the suspect. During the conversation, the suspect ripped off jewelry from off the victim’s body and fled away the area.
  • Grand Theft – San Pablo Ave. / Madison Ave. At 5:09 AM, an officer reports a suspect stole items out of a delivery truck while the driver was making deliveries.  The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.

March 6th

  • Petty Theft –  Wildwood Pl. At 8:02 AM, the victim reports their license plates were stolen off their vehicle.
  • Shoplifting – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls): At 3:37 PM, officers responded to a report of a theft. Officers located the suspect and found the suspect to have prior theft convictions. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Defrauding an Inn Keeper – 11344 San Pablo Ave. (Dennys): At 12:31 AM, an officer reports the suspects consumed food and fled the business without paying.

March 7th

  • Unlawful Burning – 10890 San Pablo Ave. (City Hall):  At 10:30 AM, an officer reports a suspect lit items on fire near an entrance sometime overnight.  No damage was found on the property.
  • Shoplift – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):  At 10:45 AM, a suspect stole merchandise and fled the area prior to police arrival.

March 8th

  • Public Intoxication – 900 Block of Pomona Ave. At 6:46 PM, an officer responded to the area for a report of a subject wandering around the neighborhood. Officers contacted the subject and conducted an investigation. Officers found the subject to be intoxicated. The subject was arrested and transported to a nearby hospital. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
  • Battery – 6900 Block of Stockton Ave. At 10:26 PM, officers were dispatched to a report of a battery. Upon arrival, officers discovered two family members were in a verbal altercation when the suspect punched the other subject several times, causing injury. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Grand Theft – 6400 block of Portola Dr. At 12:52 PM, a suspect cut a lock and stole an e-Bike. The victim had tracked the bike to a nearby city via GPS. Officers checked the area and located the e-Bike abandoned.  Officers recovered the e-Bike and returned it to its owner.
  • Shoplift / Possess Controlled Substance – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreens):  At 2:42 PM, an officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of a suspect who stole merchandise. During a search incident to arrest, officers located a controlled substance on the suspect’s person. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Unlawful Use of Stun Gun / Felon Possession of a Stun Gun / Possession of Stun Gun with No Serial Number – 11720 San Pablo Ave.  At 3:55 PM, an officer reports the victim was approached by a handyman while washing a car and was threatened with a stun gun. Officers located and detained the suspect. During the investigation, officers discovered the suspect was a convicted felon with a no bail felony warrant for their arrest. During a search incident to arrest, officers found the suspect to be in possession of an unserialized stun gun and admitted to pointing it at the victim. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

March 9th

  • Battery / Battery on a Peace Officer – 240 El Cerrito Plaza (Melodee): At 1:37 AM, officers responded to the business for a report of a battery. Upon arrival, the suspect was located and placed under arrest. During the arrest, the suspect committed a battery on the officer.
  • Trespass – 1300 Block of Liberty St.  At 9:02 AM, an officer reports the suspect was squatting inside of a vacant unit.
  • Shoplift – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 2:23 PM, an officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of two juvenile suspects for shoplifting. The third juvenile was detained and later released. The two juvenile suspects were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to their parents.
  • Commercial Burglary – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24-Hour Fitness): At 12:03 AM, an officer reports a suspect cut the victim’s lock off their locker and stole property.
  • Stolen Vehicle – Santa Clara Ave. / Lassen Ave. At 1:56 AM, a victim reports a suspect stole their vehicle. Officers located the vehicle damaged and abandoned several blocks from the victim’s residence.
  • Auto Burglary – 7000 Block of Curry Ave. At 4:49 AM, an officer reports three suspects broke into the victim’s vehicle and stole property.

March 10th

  • Battery – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 11:12 AM, an officer reports store security caught a suspect attempting to steal merchandise. In response, the suspect pushed the security guard and fled the scene prior to police arrival.
  • Theft – 5900 block of San Diego St. At 2:46 PM, the victim reported their license plates were stolen.

March 11th

  • Criminal Threat – 5800 block of Alta Punta Ave. At 8:50 AM, a victim reports that during a verbal altercation with a known suspect, the suspect threatened to harm the victim.
  • Commercial Burglary – 10125 San Pablo Ave. (Popeye’s): At 9:12 AM, an officer reports that during the early morning hours, three suspects shattered a window to the business and ransacked the office.
  • Stolen Vehicle – 7400 block Fairmount Ave. At 9:04 AM, the victim reports their vehicle was stolen sometime overnight.
  • Shoplifting – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls): At 8:54 PM, an officer reports a suspect stole items.
  • Petty Theft – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24-Hour Fitness): At 3:11 AM, a victim reports a suspect stole items from their unsecured locker.

March 12th

  • Robbery – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 8:16 AM, an officer reports the suspects threatened to shoot a security guard after they were confronted with stealing items. The suspects fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival.
  • Stolen Vehicle – 6400 block of Portola Dr. At 9:58 AM, the victim reported their vehicle was stolen sometime overnight.
  • Criminal Threats / Vandalism / Illegal Use of Pepper Spray –  410 El Cerrito Plaza (Verizon): At 12:21 PM, an officer reports a suspect was escorted by security out of the store for loitering.  The suspect threatened to harm the security guard and shattered the glass window to the business. The suspect then pepper sprayed security and fled the area prior to police arrival.
  • Petty Theft – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24-Hour Fitness): At 6:00 PM, a victim reports a suspect stole their e-Bike from in front of the business.

March 13th

  • Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Wall Ave. At 10:50 PM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop. During the investigation, officers found the subject had an outstanding warrant for their arrest.  The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Grand Theft – 11344 San Pablo Ave. (Dennys): At 4:44 AM, an officer reports the suspect stole the victim’s briefcase and fled the restaurant prior to police arrival.

March 14th

  • Warrant Arrest – 11785 San Pablo Ave. (Launderland):
    At 10:20 AM, officers responded to the business for a report on an unwanted subject. Upon arrival, officers located and detained the suspect. Officers conducted a records check of the suspect and found the suspect to have a warrant for their arrest. The suspect was arrested and released on scene with a citation.

March 15th

  • Petty Theft – 5600 block of El Dorado Ave. At 8:31 AM, an officer reports a suspect stole the rear license plate off the victim’s vehicle sometime between 9:00 PM on 03/14/2025 and 6:00 AM on 03/15/2025.
  • Petty Theft – 8400 block of Buckingham Dr.  At 12:11 PM, the victim reports a suspect stole the victim’s registration tab sometime after June 2024.
  • Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave. / Moeser Ln. At 10:27 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During a DUI investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence. The driver was  arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation to a sober friend.
