Today in Martinez, County Supervisors Andersen, Burgis, Gioia, Carlson, District Attorney Becton, her executive team, victim-witness advocates, and Public Defender McDonnell proudly stood in recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, which will be observed from April 6-12, 2025.
On April 9th, the District Attorney’s Office will host the annual Victims’ Rights Recognition Ceremony in Martinez to honor survivors of crime, acknowledge their resilience, and reinforce our community’s commitment to justice and healing.
By bringing together victims, advocates, law enforcement, and community members, the ceremony aims to foster a sense of kinship and support, ensuring that those impacted by crime are not forgotten.

National Crime Victims Week Information
Since 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) has challenged the Nation to confront and remove barriers to achieving justice for all victims of crime. During NCVRW, we recognize the accomplishments of the victims’ rights movement and reflect on how far we have come.
Every April, OVC leads communities throughout the country in their annual observances of NCVRW. In 2025, we will observe NCVRW on April 6–12, with the theme—Connecting < KINSHIP > Healing
This year’s theme of KINSHIP is a call to action to recognize that shared humanity should be at the center of supporting all survivors and victims of crime. KINSHIP is a state of being with survivors that drives vital connections to services, rights, and healing. KINSHIP is where victim advocacy begins.

Video: Recall District Attorney Diana Becton Press Conference
On Saturday, family members of crime victims announced the recall of Contra Costa District Attorney Diana Becton. The press conference was held in the City of Oakley and for approximately 30 minutes families of crime victims shared their stories. They also stated within 3-hours of their notice of intention, they collected 125 signatures and now have 160 days to gather over 70,000 signatures. — Full story
