A Message from City Manager Dante Hall on Behalf of the City of Hercules

Dear Community Members,

I want to take a moment to address the recent incident involving City of Hercules police officers. I understand the concern this situation has caused within our community and recognize that incidents of this nature can be traumatic for both those involved and those viewing footage at a later time.

First and foremost, the well-being of our community members is our top priority, and we must ensure that all interactions with law enforcement are handled with the utmost care and respect.

We are aware that the community may have questions about our officers’ use of force in this situation and their prior training. The City has procedures in place to review these types of incidents after they occur, and such procedures were followed here.

We strive to earn the trust of those we serve by maintaining transparency and upholding ethical principles. Given that a lawsuit has been filed against the City, we cannot release certain information at this time because it is prohibited by law, it could compromise an ongoing investigation, and/or because certain facts have not been established with certainty. We appreciate your understanding in this matter, as it is essential for us to uphold the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

We recognize that incidents like this can affect the trust between the community and law enforcement. Thank you for your continued engagement and support. Our community’s safety and trust are paramount, and the City is committed to ensuring that this incident is reviewed thoroughly, responsibly and in accordance with the procedures in place.
