CROCKETT, Calif. – An early morning crash involving two vehicles has resulted in one fatality.
On March 27th, 2025, at approximately, 3:55 a.m., officers assigned to the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Contra Costa Area office responded to a two-vehicle crash thatoccurred on Interstate 80 (I-80) eastbound, west of Pomona Street.
Our preliminary investigation indicates that a semi-truck traveling eastbound on I-80 came to a stop due to heavy traffic ahead of its location. For reasons still under investigation, the driver of a Dodge Caliber traveling behind the truck failed to stop for traffic and crashed into the rear of the truck. Following the crash, CHP officers and paramedics arrived on scene and pronounced the driver, and sole occupant, of the Dodge deceased.
All lanes of I-80 eastbound were closed at approximately 4:29 a.m., for on-scene investigation, and were re-opened at approximately 8:28 a.m.
