Antioch, CA — After making two big passes around early leader Matt Kampfraat of Granite Bay and Troy Foulger of Oakley, Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas won the 20 lap IMCA Modified Main Event. The win for the two-time Antioch Speedway champion was the 70th of his career at the track as he sits atop the division’s all-time win list. It came at the track’s 65th championship season opener.
Kampfraat started on the outside front row and bolted into the lead at the green flag ahead of Foulger and Hogge. A yellow flag waved for the second time on Lap 5 when John Pierce of San Jose spun in Turn 3. On the restart, Hogge made a strong move on the inside in Turn 2 to take second from Foulger and made a low pass on Kampfraat exiting Turn 4 to have the lead by the end of the lap. Foulger quickly slipped past Kampfraat for second, followed by reigning State champion Jacob Mallet Jr of Oakley. The race had two late yellow flags in the last three laps. However, Hogge didn’t let it stop him as he bolted ahead on the last restart on Lap 20 and won ahead of Foulger, Mallet, Katelynn Robertson of Reno, Nevada and Anthony Slaney of Oakley.
Holding off the pressure of two-time reigning champion Kenny Shrader of Pacheco, Turlock’s Tanner Thomas won the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. Earlier this year, the second-generation racer picked up a victory in Stockton.
Thomas took the early lead ahead of Shrader and Emali Van Hoff of Chowchilla. Kelly Campanile of Oakley and Brentwood’s Jeff Bentancourt tangled in Turn 2 for a Lap 3 yellow flag. On the restart, Van Hoff made an outside pass in Turn 2 to take the lead with Thomas settling into second ahead of Shrader. Alfred Johnson spun for a Lap 7 yellow flag, and the restart saw Oakley’s Tommy Clymens Jr spin, collecting Brentwood’s Fred Ryland and Bentancourt.
On the restart lap, Van Hoff had a big push exiting Turn 4, allowing Thomas, Shrader and Jason Ryan Jr of Oakley to slip by for the first three positions. During the second half of the race, Shrader made his presence known behind Thomas. However, Thomas kept his cool under pressure and brought it home to a satisfying win. Ryan settled for third ahead of Trevor Clymens of Brentwood and Oakley’s Joseph Pato.
Bakersfield’s Nicholas Johnson won the 20 lap Pacific Coast Hobby Stock Main Event. Johnson arrived just in time to get a few hot laps, but he impressed with victories in both the feature race and his eight lap heat.
Johnson and Oakley’s Michaela Taylor brought the field to the green flag with Johnson taking the early lead. 2023 champion Grayson Baca of Brentwood gained second on a Lap 2 restart with Oakley’s Charlie Bryant settling into third. The first 10 laps saw three yellow flags, but Johnson led Baca on each restart. Antioch’s Chris Long moved into third on a Lap 6 restart. The final yellow flag waved on Lap 17 when Oakley’s Hunter Hammett spun in Turn 4. However, Johnson didn’t let that slow him down as he maintained command on the restart and drove it to victory. Baca was a strong second, followed by Long, Bryant and Oakley’s James East.

Troy Foulger of Oakley turned in a dominant performance in winning the 15 lap IMCA Stock Car Main Event. Foulger is the 2023 champion, and this was his 21st win in this division.
Foulger drew the pole position for the Main Event and took the lead at the start, followed by Jason Robles of Rio Vista and Brentwood’s Fred Ryland. As Foulger pulled away from the pack, Ryland made an outside pass in Turn 4 of the sixth lap to take second from Robles. During the final five laps, Foulger caught slower traffic and saw his straightaway advantage over Ryland cut in half. However, Foulger would pick up the victory ahead of Ryland, Robles, Manteca’s Mitch Enos and Austin Van Hoff of Chowchilla.
Shawn DeForest of Livermore won the 20 lap Late Model Main Event. A long time supporter of Late Model racing, DeForest made it a perfect evening as he captured the eight lap heat race victory as well.
DeForest took the lead from the outset ahead of reigning track champion Rod Oliver of Yuba City and Tim Yeager of Belmont. Paul Gulielmoni of Vacaville slipped past Yaeger for third on Lap 3 before a yellow flag flew for Jake Dewsbury of Vallejo. DeForest continued to lead Oliver and Gulielmoni on the restart, and they ran that way through a Lap 11 yellow flag for Mariposa’s Andrew Odgers. DeForest resumed command on the restart and was a happy winner ahead of Oliver, Gulielmoni, Yeager and Ray Trimble of Auburn.
These five divisions will be back in action on April 19th for the annual Easter Eggstravaganza event. Next Saturday, the Wingless Spec Sprints have their season opener with the IMCA Sport Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, Hardtops and 600 Micro Sprints also competing.
