Brentwood Police Chief Gives 2024 Performance Report

On Tuesday, Brentwood Police Chief Tim Herbert provided its 2024 performance report of the Brentwood Police Department.

NOTE – the crime data does not include January 2023 so its not a true apples to apples according to Brentwood Police

According to Chief Herbert, between 2023 vs. 2024, violent crime is down is about 2.6%  while property crime is up 8%.

“What I am hoping is this doesn’t fully reflect Prop 36 with the changes to the property crime laws, we should see a reduction in property crime,” explained Herbert while there was an overall increase of 1.8% in reportable offenses.

Brentwood Police

Staffing:

  • Brentwood Police saw no increase in number of officers in 2023 vs. 2024 as in both years, they have 66 actual sworn.  With 6 vacancies, they currently have 4 trainees, 1in academy graduating in May with 3 starting academy in April 2025.

Dispatch:

  • 3 vacancies with 1 starting on April 16, 2025… ongoing recruitment until filled.

Community Service Officer

  • 1 vacancy… currently recruiting until filled.

Engage Survey Results 2024

  • BPD sent out 49,924 surveys with 22% return rate. Overall, 89% of respondents were “very satisfied” with their experience with BPD.

March 7, 2023 – Brentwood Police Chief Gives 2023 Crime Report: On Tuesday, Police Chief Tim Herbet presented the Brentwood Police Department 2023 annual performance report in an effort to provide accountability, transparency and access staffing needs. Herbert shared that in 2023, they had a total of 33,223 calls for service which was 1,388 more than 2022 (31,835), however, they took 439 less reports with 5,598 total cases. Overall case workload increased by 6%.
