On Tuesday, the Antioch City Council will be asked to approve a lease agreement for an Antioch Police Department substation located at Sycamore Square.
According to the staff report, if approved, the lease terms would be for 18-months for a substation to be located at 1084 Sycamore Drive. The cost would be not to exceed $33,127.50 paid from the police facilities general fund budget.
This would include:
- Lease: $12,603 ($1 per month for July 1, 2025 – Sept. 30, 2025 & $840 per month Oct 1, 2025 – Dec 31, 2026
- Ballistic Glass & Installation – $21,049 cost: City to pay 50% = $10,524.50
- Substation Setup costs: One-time expenditures for furnishings, signage, technology, and operational readiness = $10,000.00
The City will also be responsible for electricity costs for the premises. Water and garbage services will be covered by the landlord.
The staff report added, a review of police activity within a 0.25-mile radius of Sycamore Square from April 1, 2024
to April 14, 2025 indicates a total of 2,596 calls for service, including a substantial number of serious and quality-of-life related incidents. These include numerous ShotSpotter activations, assaults, fights, drug violations, disturbances, loitering complaints, and stolen vehicle cases.
The proposed Police Department substation is a key component of the City’s broader crime prevention and community engagement strategy. Substations enhance neighborhood safety by increasing police visibility, reducing officer response time, and providing an operational base within high-need areas. This location will enable officers to
conduct report writing, briefings, and meal breaks without leaving the patrol area, ultimately improving response capabilities and sustained presence.
