A wrong-way driver fleeing from the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office deputies in Antioch died at the scene. The suspect was identified as Victor Vigil, 50 of Pittsburg.
According to the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office, a fatal traffic collision is being investigated by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office per the county Law Enforcement Involved Fatal Incident Protocol.
On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at about 9:19 PM, deputy sheriffs conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Willow Avenue and E. 18th Street in the City of Antioch.
The vehicle did not yield leading the deputies on a pursuit. Once on southbound Highway 160, the suspect vehicle crossed over the center median and drove south in the northbound lanes. The deputies immediately terminated the pursuit and lost sight of the vehicle.
A short time after the pursuit was terminated, the California Highway Patrol received calls about a collision on the Highway 4 overpass onto Highway 160. It was later determined the suspect vehicle was involved in the collision. The suspect was later pronounced deceased at the scene. He is identified as 50-year-old Victor Vigil of Pittsburg. Three others were taken to local hospitals.

One person has died and three others were injured in a Tuesday night crash on SR-160 near Highway 4 in the City of Antioch according to Contra Costa County Fire.
At 9:23 pm Tuesday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of an overturned vehicle crash at Highway 4 and SR-160 with a vehicle on its roof. This was possibly the result of a wrong-way driver. Crews arrived on Northbound SR-160 with two vehicles on the shoulder on the City of Antioch and City of Oakley border.
By 9:37 pm, it was reported the was a possible fatality, along with a minor victim and one moderate patient being extricated from a vehicle.
As of 9:41 pm, a total of 3-AMR units was requested to the scene with a medical helicopter to possibly land at the scene. CHP estimated the roadway be shut down for several hours.
As of 9:52 pm, 1 person was confirmed deceased, 1 person airlifted by medical helicopter, 2 others were being transported for a total of 4 victims.
