Pleasant Hill, Calif. — At the county Board of Education meeting last week, Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools Lynn Mackey named 32nd District PTA President Lisa Gross as the Education Champion for April 2025.

Gross has been an active participant in various Contra Costa County Teachers of the Year programs, awards ceremonies, receptions, and celebratory events for educators and parent volunteers. Her dedication includes volunteering her time to visit teacher classrooms, honor students at the county level, and host numerous PTA (Parent Teacher Association) sponsored events throughout the county. Her tireless efforts have significantly enhanced the educational experience for students and families in Contra Costa County.

“We appreciate Lisa’s active leadership and continued support over the years,” Superintendent Mackey said. “The volunteer programs and recognition events she has helped facilitate have opened a wide range of opportunities for our students. The 32nd District PTA’s mission to positively impact the lives of all children and families by advocating for their education, health, and well-being is evident in Lisa’s work. Their support of the county Teachers of the Year program has provided well-deserved recognition for hundreds of educators and classroom grants that have enriched the education of thousands of students.”

The Education Champion award recognizes community partners for their exceptional support of students, schools, and educational programming in Contra Costa County. Education Champions create opportunities, build relationships, and provide valuable resources to the county’s public schools and the students they serve.

The 32nd District PTA’s mission includes promoting collaboration and engagement of families and educators in the education of children and youth, ensuring that all children and youth have access to quality education and opportunities. PTA volunteers in Contra Costa County have dedicated 2,755,540 hours to improving the lives of children and families. At a value of $33.49 per hour (as calculated by Independent Sector), the volunteer hours are worth $92,283,034.60. This is a testament to the dedication and impact PTA volunteers have on our schools.
