A fire in the City of Benicia is sending drift smoke into parts of Contra Costa County Monday morning. The fire is determined to be at the Benicia Valero Refinery.
The smoke briefly caused a dispatch to a vegetation fire in the City of Martinez, however, it was quickly cancelled after the fire was determined to be in Solano County.
The fire is located at the Valero Refinery in Benicia with heavy smoke and flames according to one video that was posted online.
According to Benicia Fire:
Benicia Fire Department units are currently responding to an active fire at the Benicia Valero Refinery. If you can smell or see smoke in your area, close doors and windows and stay inside. Please do not call 911 unless you are experiencing an emergency. Instead, follow Benicia Fire Department social media pages for an update on this incident. More information will be released when available.
10:28 am UPDATE (Benicia Fire): Update 10:38 a.m.: The fire was placed under control at 10:38 a.m. The shelter in place is lifted. Emergency personnel will remain on scene for clean up. While there is particulate matter present, all other air monitoring is below health hazard levels.

11:20 am UPDATE (City of Martinez): CCH HazMat has NOT detected air quality impacts to the community in Contra Costa County as a result of the Valero Benicia Refinery Fire. The fire is reportedly out and smoke from the incident has reduced significantly.
