Three people sustained serious injuries from burns after a backyard explosion at a home Thursday night in the City of Antioch.
At approximately 9:05 pm, firefighters were dispatched to the Silveria Way at Taylor Way for multiple burn victims from a backyard fire–burns were to their face, arms, and chest. Upon arrival, crews requested three medical helicopters—ultimately, two people were airlifted and 1 was ground transported.
According to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Bob Atlas, “in the 2400 block of Silveria Way, we had a report of 3 to 4 patients that were burned during a backyard fire pit explosion. We have transported 3 patients, 1 to John Muir Walnut Creek and 2 to UC Davis with moderate burns to their bodies.”
Atlas said the injuries were “moderate” at this time.
The incident shut down a portion of Lone Tree Way so the medical helicopter could land. The second medical helicopter was meeting up with an AMR unit at Highway 160 at SR-12.
No other information was released nor was any information released on the victims. Antioch Police Department officers were on scene providing traffic control.
