Brentwood vegetation fire

Just before 10:00 am Friday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters were dispatched to the area of Sunset Road near Cunha for a vegetation fire.

Upon first reports, the fire was estimated the size of a football field, however, fire crews arrived on scene reporting approximently 1-acre of vegetation on fire. With the fire approaching a fence and nearing a home, a second alarm structure protection group was dispatched. In total, the fire was limited to 10-acres in size.

According to the District:

Today, May 9, Contra Costa Fire responded to multiple phone calls for a field on fire in Brentwood with active flames. Engine 95 confirmed seeing smoke 1/2 mile out from the location while en route. Once on scene, they started additional firefighters for structure protection as the fire was getting closer to nearby homes. Forward progress was stopped in about 55 minutes at approximately 10 acres.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
