Firefighters Battle 50 Acre Vegetation Fire in Brentwood

At 3:22 pm Sunday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vegetation fire in unincorporated Brentwood.

According to preliminary reports, there was small vegetation fire starting in the area of Walnut Blvd. and Camino Diablo, originally estimated at 1/8 acre however, it quickly grew to nearly 2-acres when a second alarm response was requested after it jumped the road. With dry and windy conditions, the fire was estimated to have a potential growth of 15 acres. By 4:00 pm, the fire had grown to an estimated 5-acres in size.

However, after addition manpower arrived on scene, the estimated size of the fire quickly grew to 50-acres and forward program was stopped.

No other information was available on the fire, or the cause. The incident is under investigation. CHP also responded to provide traffic control.
