The fire was first reported just before 9:45 pm which had smoke and flames showing from 1/2 mile out according to the responding engine 99. Upon arrival, smoke and flames were coming from the garage while flames were also on the exterior threatening a neighboring home. A second-alarm response was requested as the fire had extended from the garage area to the second story of the home.

“Engine 83 from Antioch was initially moved up to cover Station 92 but was later reassigned to the fire. Engine 8 from Concord was subsequently sent to Station 92 for coverage. During this time, Engine 85 from Pittsburg responded to a vehicle accident in Brentwood, and Engine 8 also handled a separate medical aid call,” said Ono who if the downtown station was active, it would have been 5.8 miles from the call whereas Station 92 was 7.8 miles from the call.
