In her statement of resignation, Dawson said:

“This decision was at once an easy one to make, because family will always come first for me, but also a hard decision, as it has been a great privilege and experience to have served the residents of Lafayette since first elected in 2020.

“I am very grateful, and honored, to have worked with this Council, our dedicated city staff, the many passionate and considerate volunteers for the City, our wonderful business and school communities, and other organizations and individuals who work to make, and continually improve upon, the quality of life and community that Lafayette enjoys.

“I have the utmost confidence that this incredibly capable and accomplished Council and city staff will continue their outstanding work for the benefit of us all.”

The City Council will discuss next steps to fill the seat at the next regular City Council meeting on June 9, 2025.

According to the audio from the meeting, she stated it was family medical matters that she wanted to give her full attention to. She called it an easy decision to make as family would always come first for her, but also hard calling it a great privilege to serve the residents of Lafayette since 2020.
