The Richmond Police Department says a mant climbed up a PG&E power structure on Tuesday and finally came down Friday afternoon.
According to police, on Tuesday at 10:43 a.m., Richmond Police officers were alerted to a subject who had climbed onto a PG&E power structure near S. 1st St and W. Cutting Blvd. Officers responded and located the subject, who refused to come down. Power was cut off to the structure, and the Richmond Fire Department responded with ladder trucks to assist in trying to get the subject down. After hours of negotiating, the subject still refused to come down from the pole.
Over the next several days, officers and PG&E continued to monitored the situation. Because the subject was over 30 feet in the air, it was unsafe for him and emergency responders to try removing him from the structure. Mental health professionals from A3 and members of the Richmond Community Crisis Response Program (ROCK) assisted in trying to persuade the subject to descend from the structure voluntarily, however he refused to come down.
Police said that on Friday, at approximently 1:36 p.m. members of A3, ROCK and PG&E were able to convince the subject to come down from the structure. Due to the amount of time he was on the structure, he was provided medical attention prior to being booked on various charges related to entering the secure facility and disrupting power systems.
Police said they were are grateful that through cooperation with our community partners we were able to bring about a peaceful resolution to this incident.
No other information was released and the subject was not identified.
