A video went viral after a man was spotted dancing on top of an Antioch Police Department patrol vehicle on Thursday in the City of Antioch.
At approximently 11:30 am on June 5, fire and medical were dispatched to assist Antioch Police for a subject on top of the patrol vehicle in front of an auto dealership on Auto Center Drive. A few minutes later, police took the man into custody and AMR was requested to the scene while Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters were cancelled.
He added that the entire situation lasted just a few minutes (video: Antioch Police Body Worn Cameras video:
“The entire situation unfolded over the course of a few minutes. One of our officers encountered the individual while several calls were coming in. Given the circumstances, the officer made a judgment call and slowly pulled into a nearby parking lot, believing it would be a safer and more controlled than the active roadway,” explained Vigil.
He added officers employed time, distance, and de-escalation techniques to help calm the individual, who eventually got off the vehicle without further issue. Given his nature, an ambulance was requested and transported him to the hospital for treatment.
The call was handled as a “5150 call” and there were no charges. They were also not identifying the individual.
