Walnut Creek Mayor Issues Statement on Federal Immigration Efforts

Press Release

Walnut Creek

The following was written by Walnut Creek Mayor Cindy Darling regarding recent federal immigration efforts:

The City of Walnut Creek stands in support of communities across California that are experiencing the impacts of recent federal immigration enforcement actions. We recognize there have been significant federal immigration enforcement actions in the Bay Area, including in our neighboring city of Concord. We know the ICE actions have caused fear, frustration, and uncertainty among residents.

We also support the constitutional rights of residents to express their concerns over these actions through peaceful protest. Violence and property destruction are not the solutions.

The Walnut Creek Police Department’s mission is to provide public safety for our residents and visitors. Our police department does not enforce immigration laws, and we do not share information related to immigration status with other organizations.

This is a difficult and unpredictable time for many in Walnut Creek. There are resources to assist people with concerns, including a “Know Your Rights” online presentation hosted by the Contra Costa Library on June 23 at 11:00 a.m. You can find out more about your rights when interacting with ICE and the immigration system by registering online for the presentation.

Walnut Creek recognizes that our diversity is a source of strength and we will continue to welcome all residents.
