City of Pittsburg Statement on Federal Immigration Efforts

PITTSBURG, CA – The City of Pittsburg and the Pittsburg Police Department reaffirm our commitment to support all members of our community and their families, regardless of immigration status, and to serve the public with professionalism and respect. We also support the constitutional rights of residents to peacefully protest, without violence or property damage.

The City, its Officials, and the Pittsburg Police Department do not participate in immigration enforcement. The Pittsburg Police Department does not ask about immigration status when contacting a member of the public, do not arrest or hold any individual based solely on immigration status. Our policies and practices are aligned with the Government Code and the California Values Act regarding immigration detainers.

Still, ICE and DHS may operate independently. To stay ready, know your rights: please visit the City’s website at Know Your Rights | City of Pittsburg. You can also find more information about your rights when interacting with ICE and the immigration system by attending the “Know Your Rights” online presentation hosted by the Contra Costa Library on June 23 at 11:00 a.m. (Register here).

The City of Pittsburg strives to be a caring and safe community that views our diversity as a core component of its strength. We will continue to stand firmly against discrimination in any manner.
