The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito police calls between May 18 – 31 according to the El Cerrito Police Department.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
May 18th
- Driving Under the Influence – Central Ave. / Yosemite Ave. At 1:27 AM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the DUI investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation to a sober friend.
- Vandalism – 1800 block of Key Blvd. At 6:21 AM, an officer reports a gate was damaged by a suspect sometime overnight.
- Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreens): At 4:52 PM, officers responded to a report of a shoplift suspect fighting with security. Officer arrived on scene, located, and positively identified the suspect. During a search incident to arrest, the suspect was found to be in possession of the stolen items and a controlled substance. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Grand Theft – 1400 block of Arlington Blvd. At 6:07 PM, an officer reports a theft of property that occurred sometime between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
- Petty Theft – 10520 San Pablo Ave. (Griffin Performance Judo): At 6:09 PM, a victim reports a suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle but did not take anything.
- Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave. / Blake St. At 9:54 PM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the DUI investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation to a sober friend.
May 19th
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Stockton Ave. / Richmond St. At 2:19 AM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop. During the investigation, officers found the subject to be in possession of suspected illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released with a citation.
- Trespassing – 11344 San Pablo Ave. (Denny’s): At 2:36 AM, officers responded to the report of a habitual trespasser refusing to leave the business. The suspect was arrested and transported directly to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 7900 block of Terrace Dr. At 7:42 AM, a victim reports their vehicle was taken sometime overnight. At 2:15 PM, an officer located the vehicle parked and unoccupied. The vehicle was released to the owner.
- Warrant Arrest – Carlson Blvd. / San Pablo Ave. At 4:10 PM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop. During the investigation, officers found the subject to have a warrant for their arrest. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
May 20th
- Trespassing – 1500 block of Lexington Ave. At 9:12 AM, an officer reports the suspect fled from the garage of a vacant property when the owner arrived. No damage or missing property was reported.
May 21st
- Warrant Arrest – Blake St. / Kearney St. At 9:50 AM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop. During the investigation, officers found the subject to have a warrant for their arrest. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Trespassing and Brandishing a Weapon – 1400 block of Liberty St. At 9:15 AM, a victim reports they found a suspect inside of their parked vehicle. The suspect was confronted by the victim, brandishing a knife at the victim while they fled the area.
- Vandalism and Trespassing – 6600 block of Blake St. At 1:22 PM, the victim reports they found a suspect had broken into their shed and had been sleeping inside.

- Driving Under the Influence – Cutting Blvd. / I-80: At 2:50 AM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the DUI investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation to a sober friend.
- Grand Theft – 1500 block of Liberty St. At 11:11 AM, an officer reports the theft of copper wire.
- Grand Theft– 1400 block of Arlington Blvd. At 1:00 PM, an officer reports the theft of copper wire.
May 24th
- Organized Retail Theft – 10680 San Pablo Ave. (O’Reilly’s): At 7:54 PM, an officer reported two subjects entered the store and began taking items from the aisles. The suspects attempted to exit the business with the unpaid merchandise but dropped the items prior to exiting the business.
- Petty Theft – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 8:46 PM, an officer reports the victim left their personal property on a table. When the victim returned, their property was missing.
- Shoplift – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls): At 9:58 PM, an officer reports a suspect concealed merchandise inside of a duffle bag and fled the business without paying.
- Vandalism – 6009 Potrero Ave. (Hotel Mira Vista): At 9:58 PM, an officer reports the suspect became upset and damaged a display case.
May 25th
- Shoplift – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls): At 5:54 PM, a suspect stole items and fled the store prior to police arrival.
May 26th
- Driving Under the Influence – 5920 Cutting Blvd. (Jack in the Box): At 3:00 AM, officers responded to the business for a report of a driver passed out in the drive thru. Officers conducted a DUI investigation and found the driver to be under the influence. The driver was arrested, transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, and released with a citation.
- Driving Under the Influence / Possession of Narcotics – 10602 San Pablo Ave. (Exxon): At 3:13 AM, officers were dispatched to the area for a driver that was passed out in their vehicle. Officers conducted a DUI investigation and found the driver to be under the influence. During a search incident to arrest, the driver was found to be in possession of suspected fentanyl. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Vandalism / Open Container – 10890 San Pablo Ave. (City Hall) At 9:40 AM, an officer contacted a suspect who wrote a political statement in lipstick on a door of city hall. Officers also found the suspect to have two open containers of alcohol. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released with a citation.
- Burglary – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24-Hour Fitness): At 10:32 hours, an officer reports a suspect broke into lockers and stole personal property.
- Driving Under the Influence / Hit and Run – Potrero Ave. / Eastshore Blvd. At 8:13 PM, officers were dispatched to a report of an injury collision. During the investigation, officers discovered one of the drivers had driven away after the collision. Officers later located the driver at a nearby parking lot and noticed the driver appeared to be intoxicated. Officers conducted a DUI investigation and found the driver to be under the influence. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation to a sober friend.
May 27
- Stolen Vehicle – 2500 block of Mira Vista Dr. At 6:32 AM, a victim reported their vehicle was stolen sometime overnight.
- Commercial Burglary – 1537 S. 56th St. (Hassler Heating and A/C ): At 8:51 AM, a victim reported a suspect broke into their business and a tool shed in an attempt to steal a work vehicle. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
- Shoplifting – 5805 Cutting Blvd. (Skecher’s): At 11:39 AM, a suspect entered the business and stole items. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.
- Petty Theft – 11511 San Pablo Ave. (IHOP): At 11:30 AM, a victim reported the suspect stole the victim’s purse. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival
- Assault – 9901 San Pablo Ave. (Chipotle): At 6:20 PM, an officer reported a suspect became upset after being asked to leave the restaurant and threw food at employees. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.
- Shoplifting – 7022 Stockton Ave. (7-Eleven): At 8:36 PM, the suspect stole items from the business. Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect. The suspect was placed under Citizen’s Arrest, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released with a citation.
- Battery / Driving Under the Influence – Moeser Ln. / King Dr. At 10:34 PM, officers responded to a report of a battery between two parties, with one of the parties fleeing the scene. Officers located the suspect and conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During a DUI investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence. The suspect was identified by the victim and arrested. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation to a sober friend.
- Vehicle Tampering – 900 Block of Liberty St. At 10:44 PM, the victim reported their vehicle was tampered with sometime within the last three days.
May 28th
- Shoplifting – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 10:41 AM, an officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of a suspect who stole items from the business. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Shoplifting – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls): At 1:56 PM, a suspect stole items and fled the area prior to police arrival.
- Stolen Vehicle / Attempt Assault with Deadly Weapon on Police Officer / Felony Evading / Possession of Stolen Vehicle with Priors / Disobey Court Order / Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Barrett Ave. At 8:21 PM, officers located an occupied stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic enforcement stop. The vehicle lead officers on a pursuit on the freeway and surface streets. At one point, the driver of the stolen vehicle intentionally used the vehicle to try and ram a police vehicle. Officers were able to capture and arrest the suspect and passenger. During the investigation, officers found the driver to be in violation of a restraining order. The driver also had previous convictions for stolen vehicles. The passenger of the stolen vehicle had an outstanding warrant for their arrest. Both suspects were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Commercial Burglary – 10566 San Pablo Ave. (Yaoya-San): At 3:33 AM, officers responded to an alarm coming from the business. Upon arrival, officers found the front window to the business shattered but no entry made.
May 29th
- Warrant Arrest – Central Ave. / Yolo Ave. At 8:08 AM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop. During the investigation, officers found the subject had an outstanding warrant for their arrest. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Forgery – 7300 Block of Gladys Ave. At 11:38 AM, the victim reported a check they wrote never made it to the intended destination. By contacting their bank, the victim discovered the check had been forged both in the amount distributed and the name written on the check.
May 30th
- Vehicle Theft – 900 block of Kearney St. At 6:58 AM, a victim reported their vehicle was stolen sometime overnight.
- Warrant Arrest – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 11:42 PM, officers responded to the business regarding a theft in progress. Officers positively identified and arrested both suspects. During the investigation, officers discovered one of the suspects had an outstanding warrant for their arrest. Both suspect were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
May 31st
- Driving While Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave. / Central Ave. At 12:33 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During a DUI investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation to a sober friend.
- Vandalism – 1500 block of Liberty St. At 8:39 AM, an officer reported a suspect damaged a garage door sometime overnight.
- Shoplift – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS): At 2:33 PM, an officer reported a suspect stole items and fled the area prior to police arrival.
