A new city book that highlights the City of Martinez is now available for purchase after Hometown Highlights Alphabet Series announced the release.
According to Kori Barton, author and illustrator, they really enjoyed the city of Martinez so what they loved most about the experience in this creation was she and her husband, Sammy, could spend more time learning about the history of the city.
“Creating this book was finally a reason to spend zillions of hours poring over local history books, which us book nerds had been itching to do for a while anyway. I also loved getting to connect with folks in the community along the way and hear many stories about the city they cherish,” explained Barton.
Some of her favorite letters from the book were “T” for tankers and tugboats, but also “J” for John Muir.
She also shared the most surprising fact she learned about Martinez which was at one point, camels cross the Carquinez Straight on the old ferry boat from Benicia to Martinez.
“I wish I would have been there to watch,” said Barton.
For Barton and her husband, she hopes residents take a deeper dive into history of the city.
“We hope that they are encouraged to be thankful for their hometown and inspired to dive deeper into local history. We would also highly recommend a visit to the Martinez Museum downtown to learn from the sweet Martinez Historical Society folks (who were so instrumental in creating this book, too!). We poured a lot of hours and love into this book – as with our other books – and we hope it makes them smile,” explained Barton.
The next book currently in the works is the City of Livermore which she teases has already been fascinating. Following Livermore release in the future, the next city is up in the air.
The Martinez Alphabet Book is the latest to be released. To date, books have been released on the City of Clayton, City of Concord, City of Brentwood and City of Walnut Creek. The goal is to bring to light the beauty and unique aspects of Bay Area cities.
