Kamp Kiwanis, run by Pittsburg Kiwanis Club, aimed to boost students’ environmental awareness through firsthand activities; and they delivered.
The Pittsburg Club brought back the program with a 3-day camp from July 30th to August 1st after a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kamp Kiwanis was all about getting kids outside, having fun, and making new friends while learning to care for the environment. This year’s camp was packed with adventures and laughter, creating stories that campers will remember for years to come. From July 30th to August 1st, everyone took part in impressive activities and field trips that made every day exciting. On the first day, the group headed out to Big Break Park for a nature walk with a real Naturalist—plus lively games and team challenges that had everyone cheering and working together. Day two was a blast at Old Borges Ranch in Castle Rock Regional Park, where campers dove into swimming, hiking, and exploring the outdoors. The grand finale on the last day was Swim Day at Buchanan Park, filled with pool games, splashing around, and plenty of laughs, all led by a Pittsburg Recreation Supervisor. The camp was the perfect mix of outdoor fun, new friendships, and learning cool things about nature.
Kiwanis Club and Key Club (high school campus club) members joined in the fun, connecting with campers through games, stories, and shared adventures. Their involvement strengthened bonds across generations, making camp a place where both kids and Kiwanis and Key Club members-built friendships and lasting memories.
