ANTIOCH, Calif. – On August 6th, 2025, at approximately, 7:37 p.m., officers assigned to the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Contra Costa Area office responded to a pedestrian struck by two vehicles on State Route 4 (SR-4) eastbound, west of Somerville Road.
Our preliminary investigation indicates that an adult male pedestrian entered the eastbound lanes of traffic from the right shoulder, of SR-4 eastbound, west of Somerville Road. The pedestrian crossed into the far left lane, directly into the path of an oncoming Ford van. The van struck the pedestrian, causing him to fall in the far left lane. A Subaru Forester traveling directly behind the Ford then immediately struck the pedestrian.
Following the crash, CHP officers, firefighters, and paramedics arrived on scene to assist. Tragically, the pedestrian sustained fatal injuries from the crashes and was pronounced deceased on scene.
The drivers of the two vehicles were uninjured in the incident and cooperated with Law Enforcement by remaining on scene for the investigation. CHP officers determined that DUI was ruled out as a factor of this incident.
All lanes of SR-4 eastbound were closed at approximately 7:52 p.m., for on-scene investigation, and were re-opened at approximately 8:19 p.m.
