Martinez, CA – The Board of Supervisors recently appointed Joanne Bohren as the next Auditor-Controller, effective Monday, Aug. 11. The Auditor-Controller serves as the Chief Accounting Officer for the County and ensures the fiscal integrity of the County’s financial records.
The Board’s action follows the retirement of Robert Campbell, who left in March 2025 after more than 30 years of service. Bohren will complete the remainder of the current term, which runs through Jan. 4, 2027.
Bohren has served in the Auditor-Controller’s office for more than 25 years, rising through the ranks from an entry level position to serving most recently as Assistant County Auditor-Controller. Bohren has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1990. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Accounting Option from California State University, Hayward, and an Associate in Arts, from Diablo Valley College.
“Joanne will provide strong financial leadership for Contra Costa County,” said Board Chair Candace Andersen, District 2. “Her expertise in financial management and dedication to public service will be invaluable in maintaining the County’s fiscal health and accountability to our residents.”
The Auditor-Controller is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, auditing County departments, managing payroll and disbursements, and ensuring the integrity of the County’s financial practices.
“I’m honored to take on this role and look forward to working collaboratively with County leadership,” Bohren said. “My goal is to uphold the highest standards of fiscal responsibility while continuing to improve transparency and efficiency in our financial operations.”
