The Solano County Sheriffs Office says an Antioch man has died after drowning at Sandy Beach in Rio Vista.
On Wednesday, August 13, at approximately 4:30 PM, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service regarding a person missing in the water at Sandy Beach in Rio Vista.
Deputies, Rio Vista Police Officers, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, and neighboring agencies responded and began a search in the area, which continued until nightfall. The search resumed on the morning of August 14 at approximately 8:00 AM. At around 4:00 PM, a remotely operated vehicle located the missing person underwater in the Sandy Beach area, and divers recovered the body. The deceased man was identified as Nico Cuevas, 23, of Antioch.
The search and recovery operations were made possible with the help of Nico’s family, friends, volunteers, and multiple agencies, including the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Marine Enforcement Detail and Dive Team, Napa County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, Solano County Parks, Rio Vista Police Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard Rio Vista Station.
