On Friday, the Antioch Police Department say an armed robbery suspect was taken into custody in the parking lot of Antioch High School and a firearm thrown onto campus
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon just before 2:50 pm when Antioch Police attempted to take a suspect into custody at W 18th St and L Street when a crash occurred. This prompted the respect to foot bail where he fled onto to school grounds and into the parking lot which prompted officers to draw their weapons before taking the suspect into custody.
Antioch Police Chief Vigil provided details on the incident.
“Officers had located a vehicle involved in an armed robbery from over the weekend. The suspect fled in his vehicle and was involved in a low-speed crash. He then fled from the vehicle, on foot, and onto the railroad tracks near AHS. As he was running, he threw a pistol into the parking lot of AHS. Officers began to surround him as he jumped the fence into AHS parking lot. He would surrender to officers as they confronted him in the parking lot.
No other information was released and the suspect was not identified nor was any information on the armed robbery released.

On Monday, during the police oversight commission meeting, Chief Vigil provided updated Antioch Police Department staffing levels stating they were at 88 officers after 1 resignation and 1 termination recently. He added that 4 officers are on injury leave, 1 on military deployment, 5 recruits are in academies while a recent hiring event had 100+ entry level applicants.
